About the role
As Head of Data and Insights, you will be responsible for developing and implementing an organisation-wide data strategy that supports evidence-based decision-making from frontline service delivery through to executive leadership and governance.
You will oversee organisational reporting, data governance, contractual compliance and performance systems, while helping leaders across the organisation better understand and use data in their everyday decision-making.
A key part of the position will be ensuring the organisation has accurate, consistent and timely information and that all contractual and funder reporting obligations are met to a high standard.
You will also work closely with our Kaihautū to monitor service performance, identify emerging risks and opportunities and develop data-informed responses that improve outcomes for tamariki and whānau.
Key responsibilities
In this position, you will:
• Develop and lead the implementation of the organisation’s data and insights strategy • Establish strong data governance, quality assurance and information management frameworks • Oversee accurate and timely reporting to the Chief Executive, Board, funders and government partners • Lead the development of dashboards and integrated reporting tools that provide clear visibility across services • Ensure compliance with the Privacy Act 2020, contractual requirements and relevant information-sharing agreements • Maintain oversight of reporting schedules and contractual obligations across all services • Lead and develop the Data and Insights team and provide leadership and supervision to Kaihautū • Strengthen data literacy and evidence-based decision-making across the organisation • Translate complex information into clear narratives, recommendations and visualisations for non-technical audiences • Identify risks, patterns and opportunities through data and provide proactive advice to executive leadership • Work alongside service leaders to improve performance, service models and outcomes • Represent the organisation in relevant data, research, evaluation and sector forums • Ensure whānau and community voices are reflected in how information is gathered, interpreted and used • Lead continuous improvement across organisational data systems, reporting processes and infrastructure
About you
You will be an experienced leader who can operate confidently across strategy, systems, people leadership and service delivery.
You will be able to move comfortably between detailed technical information and high-level strategic conversations, translating complex data into insights that leaders can understand and act on.
You will bring:
• Senior leadership experience in data, analytics, reporting, insights or a related field • Experience developing and implementing data strategies and governance frameworks • Strong knowledge of data analysis, reporting, visualisation and database management • Experience using platforms such as Power BI, Tableau or similar reporting tools • A strong understanding of data quality, information governance, privacy and compliance • Experience overseeing complex reporting obligations and delivering accurate work within fixed deadlines • The ability to communicate complex information clearly to executive leaders, boards, funders and community stakeholders • Proven experience leading, coaching and developing high-performing teams • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori and equity-centred approaches to data and evaluation • A commitment to working in a way that reflects tika, pono and aroha
A bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, statistics, information systems, business analytics or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent senior-level experience will also be considered.
Experience working within a Māori, social service, health, community or government-funded environment would be highly advantageous.
