Description

We are seeking a practical and organised Horticulture coordinator to ensure garden and whenua work is well-planned, and kept moving in line with our strategic goals.

This is a hands on operational role focused on preparation, execution, and follow through. The role ensures meaningful garden work is available and ready to be carried out by people with intellectual disabilities, who work alongside dedicated garden staff providing direct support.

What you will do

Garden operations

  • Coordinate daily garden operations in line with the Whenua Plan and service objectives. This includes in ground gardening, raised garden and greenhouses.
  • Anticipate upcoming work across the multiple workstreams within the garden. Step in where needed and maintain operational momentum.
  • Plan, plant, and maintain seasonal crops in accordance with a rotational planting schedule.
  • Forecast weekly harvests and coordinate produce distribution to homes and the wider community.

Nursery

  • Coordinate nursery and greenhouse activity, including plant propagation, and growing on nursery stock
  • Maintain compost systems and support other small-scale land-based systems as required.
  • Continuity gardening
  • Carry out low level home garden maintenance and other whenua related duties, as required.

What You’ll Bring

  • Formal NZQA qualification in Horticulture or equivalent experience.
  • A current full New Zealand driver licence.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor tasks (e.g. lifting, standing for extended periods)
  • Strong organisation, planning, and follow through skills.
  • Ability to manage your time, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • A practical, solutions focused approach.
  • Clear communication and collaborative working style.
  • Computer literacy (email, Word, Excel, databases).
