We’re seeking a motivated Gardening Lead to support people with intellectual disabilities in our garden and nursery on the Kāpiti Coast.

Working in collaboration with the Horticulture Coordinator, you’ll be guiding the people we support and support staff in garden and nursery activities, ensuring everyone can participate and see the results of their effort. Whether it’s growing and sharing produce with the village, propagating native plants for the community, or making products with what we grow, this role will be varied. If you enjoy both practical and creative work and working alongside others, this is an opportunity to make a genuine difference.

What you’ll do:

Build relationships: Develop trusting, positive relationships with the people we support and staff teams.

Promote inclusion: Support people with intellectual disabilities to meaningfully contribute to garden and nursery activities

Lead by doing: Model a calm, motivated, and inclusive approach through hands‑on work

Collaborate: Work closely with the Engagement Facilitator, Horticulture Coordinator and support staff to ensure activities are thoughtfully planned, meaningful, and enjoyable

Adapt to needs of the day: Bring flexibility and creativity to adapt to different people, tasks, and days

Live our special character: Model and inspire Hōhepa Anthroposophical values in daily practice.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience working alongside people with intellectual disabilities
  • A current full New Zealand driver licence.
  • An interest in working in a garden and nursery setting
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor tasks (e.g. lifting, standing for extended periods)
  • A motivated, yet easy-going and flexible attitude
  • Be a natural leader, modelling inclusivity and person-centred support
  • Creative thinking and problem solving

We will be reviewing applications as they are received, and this position may close earlier than advertised if a suitable candidate is identified.
