About the organisation

He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Māori organisation who have been supporting individuals and the community for over 30 years.

Te Aranga Health is a local general practice with a community focus where individuals can access quality GPs, experienced nurses and wrap-around wellness support once enrolled. We aim to provide the best care.  

About the role

We are seeking a part-time Registered Nurse to join our General Practice Team at Te Aranga health clinic. This position will play a pivotal role in providing competent patient centred and culturally appropriate care that addresses individual and whānau health needs.

As a promoter of wellness to our most vulnerable community members, this role is an integral part of our team. The role will work within our GP clinic and collaborate with our social service teams who share a collective passion for our community, their mahi and the organisation.

Skills and experience

  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse and hold current Nursing council of New Zealand practising certificate.  
  • Ability and experience working under pressure, within a low decile community, meeting the health needs of our most vulnerable citizens.
  • Highly experienced in remaining calm, able to set clear behavioural boundaries when patient frustrations become heightened due to ongoing / chronic ill health.
  • Ability to communicate in a concise manner, whilst ensuring empathy and understanding is paramount.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a Māori organisation / content and be able to meet the tikanga / kawa requirements. 
  • An understanding, acknowledgement and practice that demonstrates pro-equitable health outcomes for priority patients.
  • A high standard of professionalism, patience, relationship building, understanding, and work ethic are essential. 
  • Outstanding motivational and communication skills. 
  • An ability to contribute positively within a team and work well autonomously.
