About the Organisation
He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Māori organisation who have been supporting whānau and the community for over 30 years. Providing various preventative and intervention services and programmes interweaved with mātauranga Maōri values and tikanga.

About the Role
We require a competent and skilled Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) practitioner who can engage with whaiora and their whānau within the community and walk alongside to encourage and instill hope – build whānau moemoeā. You will guide and encourage Whānau with their plans to achieve autonomous wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with Whaiora who are referred to the AOD service
- AOD comprehensive report writing
- Strength-focussed, needs assessments
- Active participation in goal planning and reviews
- Active participation in integrated case management
- Strong advocacy skills
- Effective Group facilitation skills
- Liaising with case managers, referrers and other related agencies
Skills and Experience
- Must have minimum AOD Degree, or similar health tohu, and can evidence comprehensive assessment skills.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an AOD service.
- Understanding of Te Ao Māori and tikanga and willingness to further develop competencies
- Experience working with diverse communities.
- Alignment to He Waka Tapu values and core principles and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A full clean driver’s licence.
