About the
role
We’re looking for a practical,
relationship-focused Repairs & Maintenance Specialist to join our Housing
Adequacy team in Auckland. Based in Ōtara and reporting to the Build Manager –
Auckland, this full-time (Monday to Friday 40 hours per week) role supports our Healthy Homes Programme, Home Repair
Programme, commercial contracts, and building maintenance across Habitat sites.
You’ll build trusting relationships
with whānau, complete Healthy Homes assessments and reports, provide practical
education, install interventions and devices, and carry out minor and major
repairs that help families achieve warmer, drier homes with an improved thermal
envelope.
This is a varied, hands-on role suited
to someone with prior repairs and maintenance experience, strong attention to
detail, and the ability to work confidently in a fast-paced, community-focused
environment.
What
you’ll be doing
- Complete Healthy Homes
housing assessments, reports, interventions, and repairs across Housing
Adequacy programmes
- Provide practical
education to whānau/aiga on creating warmer, drier, healthier homes
- Carry out repairs,
preventative maintenance, and general maintenance across Habitat sites
- Complete building works
such as bathroom and kitchen renovations, fencing, guttering, decking, access
ramps, painting, hanging doors, and other maintenance tasks
- Install curtains and rails
in line with best practice standards
- Track progress through
before and after photos and clear narrative reporting
- Ensure repairs and
maintenance work complies with relevant laws, regulations, standards, and
internal procedures
- Manage expenses within
purchase orders and raise programme risks as needed
- Engage with volunteers,
contractors, suppliers, community groups, and partner organisations as required
- Attend meetings, hui,
workshops, conferences, and industry training where appropriate
What
we’re looking for
- Previous experience in
repairs and maintenance within the construction industry
- Confidence completing
practical repairs, maintenance, carpentry duties, and residential improvement
work to a high standard
- Proven ability to build
strong whānau/client, contractor, and subcontractor relationships
- Ability to prioritise
tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication
skills and confidence working with a range of cultures, particularly Māori and
Pasifika
- Competence using Microsoft
Word, Excel, and Outlook
- A calm, patient approach
in stressful situations and a genuine interest in social impact
- Alignment with Habitat’s
mission, Christian foundation, and values
