Groundfix is a national, award‑winning civil and geotechnical contracting company known for delivering high‑quality, technically challenging work. We are expanding our specialist team and are seeking skilled Rope Access Drillers to support our anchoring, soil nailing, and slope‑stabilization projects across New Zealand.
This role is ideal for experienced drillers who hold rope access qualifications, or rope access technicians with strong geotechnical drilling experience. While the role is primarily Auckland‑based, travel is required, and FIFO options may be considered for the right candidate.
About the Role
As a Rope Access Driller, you will work on a wide range of geotechnical construction projects, often in steep or difficult‑access environments. You will carry out drilling, anchoring, soil nailing, and rope access tasks while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out drilling, anchoring, soil nailing, and other geotechnical construction activities
- Operate tracked crawler drill rigs, excavator‑mounted rigs, and rope‑access drilling equipment
- Perform rope access work (IRATA) to support drilling and installation tasks
- Maintain, service, and troubleshoot drilling equipment
- Complete site paperwork including drill logs, installation records, daily briefings, and incident reports
- Follow and promote strong Health & Safety practices
- Report environmental risks or incidents immediately
- Work efficiently in steep, high‑access, or confined environments
- Support teamwork and contribute to a positive site culture
About You
You are a capable, safety‑focused technician with experience in both rope access and geotechnical drilling, or strong skills in one area with willingness to train in the other.
Required:
- Experience in geotechnical rope access or drilling (anchoring, piling, soil nailing, slope stabilization)
- Current Industrial Rope Access certification (IRATA Level 1–3)
- Experience with rope‑access drilling systems (A‑frame, wagon drill, high‑reach equipment)
- Full, clean NZ Class 1 driver license (W, T, R endorsements preferred)
- Physically fit and comfortable working in challenging environments
- Strong focus on Health & Safety
- Good communication skills and a positive, professional attitude
- Reliable, honest, and a strong team player
- Good attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills
- Ability to complete technical paperwork accurately
- Able to work well with people from different backgrounds
- Professional when dealing with clients and site representatives
Preferred (but not essential):
- Experience with NZ drilling methods (casing systems such as J‑lock, Robit, and self‑drilling anchors)
- Experience in steel fixing or shotcrete application
- EWP, WTR, or forklift certifications
- First Aid, Site Safe, or Construct Safe qualifications
