Description

Join the GAVINS Team – Partners of the Land Since the 1950s

GAVINS has been working alongside Kiwi farmers and growers since the 1950s. What started as a small maize operation has grown over time into a diverse agri-business, built on practical experience, strong relationships, and a genuine respect for the land, animals, and people we work with.

Our dairy goat farm reflects this approach. We focus on doing the basics well – caring properly for our animals, looking after our people, and continually improving how we operate. With modern milking systems, purpose-built housing and kidding facilities, and a strong emphasis on animal welfare, we take pride in running a well-managed, hands-on farming operation where teamwork and reliability matter.

We’re on the lookout for a Farm Assistant with a genuine love for animals and a solid work ethic to join our dairy goat farm team. If you’re keen to learn, reliable, and ready to get stuck in, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Milking in a rotary dairy shed using modern equipment
  • Caring for our animals, including feeding, health checks, and raising goat kids
  • Assisting with general farm work, including tractor operation when required

What We’re Looking For

  • An early riser who can commit to early morning milkings (5:00am start)
  • A strong work ethic – reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
  • Physically fit and capable of hands-on farm work
  • Good attention to detail and a genuine commitment to animal wellbeing
  • Willing to work weekends and longer hours during peak periods
  • Own reliable transport and a valid driver’s licence
  • Goat or dairy experience is an advantage, but training will be provided for the right person

What’s In It for You

  • A positive, down-to-earth team that values your contribution
  • Modern facilities and technology that support best-practice farming
  • Ongoing training and potential qualification support
  • Regular rostered days off, including every second weekend
  • $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience
  • Minimum 35 hours guaranteed per week, rotating roster with overtime available

This role is subject to a pre-employment drug test in line with our policy.

To be considered for this role, you must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. New Zealand citizens and residents are encouraged to apply.
