Specialist Fire Engineering Lecturers

Contract / Sessional | Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch

FutureSkills is a Category 1 Private Training Establishment delivering high-quality, industry-relevant vocational education that supports strong learner outcomes and real-world employability.

We are seeking specialist Fire Engineering Lecturers to teach across our Means of Escape, Active Fire and Passive Fire papers, delivered within both the NZ Diploma in Fire Engineering (Level 6) and our fire engineering micro-credentials, commencing mid-2026.

We are looking for experts with substantial experience in any of the specialist fire disciplines who are passionate about developing the next generation of fire engineering practitioners. These are flexible, contract-based engagements suited to experienced industry professionals or tertiary educators.

Locations & Delivery

• Based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch

• Classes are predominantly evenings and Saturdays

• Some block course options may also be available

The Role

As a Sessional Lecturer, you will deliver industry-aligned teaching that meets programme regulations and quality assurance requirements. Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver structured, engaging teaching aligned with the approved curriculum and programme outcomes
  • Prepare and maintain course materials, learning resources and teaching plans
  • Design, administer and mark assessments, and provide timely, developmental feedback
  • Undertake internal moderation and participate in quality assurance processes
  • Maintain accurate academic records and meet academic integrity and compliance requirements
  • Integrate current industry practice and support learner progression into industry

What You’ll Bring

Essential

  • Substantial industry experience in one or more specialist fire disciplines (means of escape, active fire or passive fire)
  • A relevant qualification in fire engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Ability to deliver structured, engaging teaching to diverse learner groups
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to learner success

Desirable

  • Tertiary teaching experience in New Zealand
  • Familiarity with vocational, competency-based or applied learning models
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g. Moodle) and online delivery tools (e.g. MS Teams)
