You love outbound calling and nurturing leads with consultative selling? Read on.
We’re hiring an Outbound Lead Rep to join a small, focused team at Future Skills – the people who help Kiwis build the skills and careers they’re capable of, through industry-aligned qualifications and micro-credentials that actually lead somewhere.
This is not a script-reader seat. It’s a discovery-first outbound role in a business that treats selling and teaching as the same job: done well, both of them leave a learner better off than you found them.
It’s also one of the best kick-start moves for a sales career in New Zealand. Prove yourself here and you’ll have a written path into full-cycle selling. Put bluntly: this is where your outbound skills turn into a proper sales career.
What you’ll actually do
You’ll be the first real voice Future Skills’ outbound leads (Students) hear. You’ll call people who’ve already shown interest in our courses – from our website, from referrals and from targeted campaigns – and hold the kind of conversation that actually figures out whether Future Skills is the right next step for them.
- Open warm outbound conversations with genuine curiosity
- Run structured discovery: goals, current situation, barriers, funding, timeline
- Qualify against clear criteria – go, no-go, or “park for now”
- Book qualified leads into one of our Subject Matter Experts’ diaries and hand them over with full context
- Keep your pipeline clean enough that someone else could pick it up tomorrow
What’s in it for you
A proper base salary, shown up front: NZ$65,000 – $70,000.
-
Commission on enrolments that come from the leads you qualified – when the SME closes, you share in it.
-
A clear sales career ladder. Start here in outbound (engage + qualify). Step up to a full-cycle Student Enrolment SME role – and your earnings will increase as well. And beyond that, opportunities to move into business-to-business sales, working directly with employers on workplace training solutions, qualifications, and micro-credentials.
-
Modern coaching. Weekly 1:1s with your Team Leader plus Grw AI-powered reviews of your actual calls, so you get fast, specific feedback on what’s working and what isn’t.
-
Warm leads. Not the phone book. These are people who’ve already raised their hand – your job is to have a good conversation with them, not to manufacture interest from zero.
-
Work that matters. Every enrolment you tee up is a real person getting real skills to change their work and income. This shows up in the way we sell – with honesty, not pressure.
-
Hours that suit the job, not someone else’s calendar. Later starts, scheduled evenings to around 7pm, and roughly one Saturday a month (agreed up front, with time in lieu).
-
A values-led team. We hold ourselves to Whakamana, Whakaute, Whakapono, Whakapapa, Whanaungatanga. Ths means we respect people, are honest, and care about outcome. If that resonates, you’ll fit.
-
Growth investment. We’ve brought in external sales performance partners (Apprento) who are building out the playbook, coaching, and call reviews. You’ll benefit directly from that.
-
On-site in Manukau with the kind of team energy you only get from being in the room together, plus sensible flex once you’re embedded.
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrable outbound phone experience – SDR, BDR, outbound qualification, or outbound sales – with real numbers on your CV (call volumes, connect rates, qualification/conversion rates, quota attainment)
- A discovery-first mindset: you open with questions, not a pitch
- Pipeline discipline: you run a list cleanly, follow up on time, and write notes someone else could pick up cold
- Honest approach – if someone isn’t the right fit, you’ll say so
- Openness to being coached on real call recordings
- Genuine curiosity about the people you’re calling
- NZ working rights; able to work on-site in Manukau
Nice-to-have (not essential)
- Experience in tertiary, vocational, TEO, or career-change space
- Familiarity with CRM-driven pipelines
- 2+ years’ tenure in a sales role on your CV
A few practical details
- Permanent, full-time, on-site in Manukau with some arranged flex
- Typical hours: later start, up to around 7pm finish on scheduled days, ~1 Saturday a month (agreed in advance, time in lieu)
- Reporting to Team Leader – Student Services (Recruitment)
- Target start date: ASAP
How to apply
Hit apply. Attach your CV. Ideally show your outbound calling numbers – not just titles. A short paragraph on the last role where you qualified leads (and how you measured “qualified”) will move you up the pile fast.
