Description

About Us:

Fiordland Lobster Company is dedicated to the sustainable fishing and live export of wild-caught southern rock lobsters. Started by fishers in New Zealand’s breathtakingly beautiful Fiordland National Park in the 1980s, the company has grown to become the largest supplier of the most prized lobster in the world.

Blessed to still be operating in some of the most pristine and wild coastlines the world has to offer, Fiordland Lobster Company is at the same time a progressive and innovative international company, with operations around New Zealand and into China. We remain true to our origins, not only in a sole focus on live lobster but also in the conservation of local environments, promotion of sustainable fishing and support of local communities.

About the role:

In this role you will be assisting with the floor management of our Dunedin facility. You will need to maintain relationships with all staff at the Dunedin site and at other facilities, liaising with them regularly to keep the product flowing. Water quality management and keeping the facility and assets maintained to a high standard are also key responsibilities. You will help coordinate incoming lobster from various parts of the South Island and you will be responsible for all outgoing lobster for export packs and domestic sales. This is a hands on role, and you will develop the skills needed as you go as full training will be available. We are a seven day operation so you will also be required to work weekends, early mornings or late nights on flexible basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall effective supervision of the Dunedin factory team.
  • To organise the receival of live lobster from other holding depots and fisherman, which involves liaising closely with the fishers and other FLC site managers.
  • To be hands on with the collection, unloading, grading and packing operations at the factory, which needs a reasonable level of physical strength and fitness.
  • Overseeing the grading and packing of live lobster in accordance with FLC & MPI guidelines, and ensuring staff always follow the current FLC manuals and protocols.
  • To complete all paperwork in a timely manner and keep an organised and logical filing system, and be conversant with Microsoft 365.
  • Ensure all procedures are being followed to always maintain high quality product.
  • Ensure the factory is maintained to the standards set by FLC and MPI for a licensed RMP facility.
  • To comply with health and safety guidelines laid out by FLC, and ensure all staff are complying.
  • To be familiar with, and ensure your team are operating within, the Fisheries Act and become conversant with all relevant compliance.
  • To work in a team environment to ensure maximum efficiency.
