We bring engineering to life to engineer better lives for New Zealanders. Our mahi supports, connects and uplifts the engineering community, drives and celebrates engineering excellence and champions change that matters.

We prioritise impactful programmes focused on climate change, diversity and inclusion, te ao Māori, and empowering rangatahi with inspiring STEM education – all to champion a diverse, resilient and future-focused engineering profession.

About the role | Mō te tūranga mahi

This is a Wellington-based role, with flexible hybrid working arrangements available.

As a Competence Assessment Advisor, you’ll play a vital role in supporting engineers through the competence assessment process, helping them achieve professional recognition and connect with their profession.

You’ll work closely with applicants, assessors and internal teams to ensure assessments are completed efficiently, fairly, and to a high standard. You’ll also help improve the overall assessment experience and contribute to continuous improvement across the process

Main duties will involve:

  • Providing guidance and support to engineers throughout the assessment process
  • Responding to applicant queries and helping navigate requirements
  • Reviewing and validating applications, providing constructive feedback
  • Coordinating and supporting assessment panels
  • Ensuring quality and consistency of assessment reports
  • Building strong relationships with assessors, industry representatives and stakeholders
  • Supporting seminars and engagement activities to promote the assessment process

Who we’re looking for | Tā mātou e kimi nei

You’re organised, people-focused, and enjoy helping others navigate complex processes with clarity and care.

We’re looking for someone proactive, detail-oriented, and keen to learn. You’ll be comfortable juggling multiple priorities, asking questions when needed, and building positive relationships with colleagues, applicants, and assessors.

To be successful, you’ll bring at least two years’ experience in an office-based role. This foundation will enable you to confidently manage competing priorities, communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, and work independently when required.

If you enjoy variety, have a keen eye for detail, and take pride in supporting people through processes, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on plain English
  • Experience in a service-oriented or professional environment
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive, collaborative approach
  •  A tertiary qualification in a relevant area, or equivalent proven experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering and technology and/or previous experience working in a similar environment, would be advantageous.

We want to hear from you if you think you can bring value to the role, not because you tick every box. We want to hear about your ideas, experience and what you’ll bring to deliver on our ambitions.
