The Opportunity

Are you an analytical Structural Engineer who enjoys spending your day deep in calculations, modelling, and solving technical problems?

Design Station is looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Whangārei-based team. This is a technically focused role, ideal for an engineer who wants to build strong foundations in structural analysis while being supported to grow their career and progress towards CPEng registration.

The Role

This role is heavily focused on structural analysis and calculations for steel building systems, working under the guidance of our Senior Structural Engineer and Head Engineer.

You’ll spend the majority of the time:

  • Building and maintaining structural models
  • Preparing detailed engineering calculations
  • Producing documentation suitable for building consent

As your experience and capability grow, your responsibilities will expand to include greater design ownership, coordination, and project interaction.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Completing structural analysis and hand calculations in accordance with NZ standards
  • Developing and maintaining structural models using SAP2000
  • Producing clear, accurate calculation packs for internal review and consent
  • Revising designs in response to peer review or regulatory feedback
  • Supporting senior engineers with design investigations and refinements
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of design tools, spreadsheets, and workflows.

About You

You are methodical, detail-oriented, and enjoy focused technical work. You’re keen to deepen your structural engineering capability and are motivated to learn from experienced engineers.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • 1 – 5 years’ experience in structural engineering
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or similar
  • Exposure to steel structures and NZ building standards
  • Strong numerical analytical ability with high attention to detail
  • A proactive attitude toward learning and professional development
