If you’re passionate about data, automation, and building tools that help people make smarter decisions, this is an opportunity to kick‑start your career in a supportive, forward‑thinking environment.

As a Graduate Data Engineer in the IT & Systems team, you’ll work closely with the Business Systems Analyst to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Business Intelligence (BI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools across the business. You’ll help build data pipelines, develop reporting models, support automation initiatives, and contribute to the data foundations that power our projects nationwide.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll learn, grow, and make a real impact.

Duties:

  • Data pipeline development – Assist with building and maintaining pipelines across multiple construction systems.
  • SQL development – Write and test SQL, transformation logic, dimensional modelling, and data quality checks.
  • Documentation – Contribute to data dictionaries, ERDs, and pipeline architecture documentation.
  • Pipeline monitoring – Monitor pipeline runs and triage basic failures.
  • Power BI support – Maintain semantic models and assist with dashboard/report development.
  • Ad hoc analysis – Prepare datasets for project, finance, and group teams.
  • Data quality – Profile new data sources and apply validation rules.
  • Governance – Support metadata tagging and lineage documentation.
  • Automation – Build and test Power Automate flows for routine business processes.
  • Attend stakeholder meetings, capture requirements, and follow standard project procedures.

Skills and Experience:

We’re looking for someone who brings curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Understanding of BI and AI concepts, tools, and models.
  • Hands‑on technical capability and interest in data engineering.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain ideas to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and proactive approach.
  • Self‑motivated, positive, and eager to contribute to a team environment.
  • Tertiary qualification (or working towards one) in a relevant field is advantageous.

What we offer:

  • Opportunities to work on exciting, complex, and award‑winning projects
  • Career development and professional growth supported by a high‑performing team
  • A positive, collaborative workplace culture
  • Work/life balance and the lifestyle benefits of living in Dunedin
  • Health and wellbeing support, including access to EAP services
  • Social events, team activities, and a genuinely supportive environment
  • Exposure to landmark commercial developments across New Zealand
  • A company that values innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence

Why you should apply:

This is a great opportunity if you’re looking for a role where you can grow your career, and be part of a team that genuinely values what you bring.

You’ll be working on meaningful, high‑profile projects, surrounded by people who want you to succeed and who take pride in delivering exceptional work.
