Description

About Us

We are New Zealand’s leading civil engineering specialist in concrete, with a rock-solid reputation and track record of 60 + years, and offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Our concrete experts have extensive expertise in post-tensioning, seismic strengthening, structural upgrading and advanced concrete repairs. We’re in growth-mode and we’re seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our South Island team. See www.contech.co.nz for more information on what we do.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a proven Project Manager to lead and deliver specialist concrete engineering projects across the South Island. This newly created role, based in Christchurch reports to the Regional Manager – Southern; you’ll coordinate end to end delivery, from tendering and procurement through to site execution, quality, HSE and close out – ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and to budget.

You’ll be comfortable as the interface with clients and consultant: collaborating closely to identify opportunities, explore options and solutions, building relationships, and working alongside the Regional Manager, playing an active role in growing Contech’s presence in the market.

This opportunity could appeal to someone at more of an intermediate level looking to specialise, or someone who brings this specialist knowledge and expertise.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings/specifications; scope works, prepare estimates and compile tenders.
  • Manage procurement of key materials; plan and establish site resources; coordinate subcontractors.
  • Own project financials: budgets, cost control, productivity reporting, invoicing/claims/variations, and verification prior to handover.
  • Implement and maintain project based quality, health & safety, and environmental plans/processes.
  • Lead coordination and stakeholder engagement across management, sites, clients, consultants, main contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Support business development: market research; promotion of Contech materials, products, systems and services.
  • Contribute technically: prepare drawings/sketches in relevant CAD software; produce detailing for PT, FRP, concrete repair, lifting and ground anchors; perform site engineering, testing, quality control and reporting (e.g., PT slab reports).

About You

  • 10+ years’ structural engineering experience with strong understanding of concrete structures; experience in post tension concrete remediation is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of and relationships within the Christchurch region.
  • Proven project management track record delivering to time, budget and quality; experienced in estimating, tendering and commercial documentation.
  • Confident building relationships and engaging with clients and partners (e.g., consulting structural engineers).
  • Sound grasp of risk identification, analysis and controls; strong commitment to health, safety and environmental best practice in construction engineering.
  • Tertiary engineering qualification (Bachelor or Diploma) preferred; proficiency with CAD and an understanding of PT, FRP and concrete repair methodologies.
  • Bring a growth mindset, commercial awareness, customer focus, execution excellence, innovation, problem solving and alignment with our values and safety culture.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary + vehicle
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Supportive, safety first work environment
  • Meaningful, technically challenging projects with National impact
