About the Role
As a Support Worker (Child, Youth & Family), you will provide direct support to vulnerable children and young people. Your role is to create a safe, stable, and structured environment, while supporting routines, building positive relationships, and responding appropriately to individual needs.
You will work across residential and community settings, following care plans and working as part of a team to support each young person’s wellbeing and development.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting daily routines (meals, school, activities, appointments)
- Building positive, professional relationships
- Supporting young people with health needs where required, following care and medication plans
- Maintaining supervision and ensuring safety at all times
- Following care and safety plans consistently
- Responding calmly and safely to behaviour
- Supporting emotional wellbeing and development
- Working as part of a team and communicating clearly
- Reporting concerns or changes in behaviour, mood, or safety

- Stay calm and professional in challenging situations
- Communicate clearly and work well within a team
- Are reliable, flexible, and open to learning
- Can follow plans and work within clear guidelines
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Minimum Restricted Driver’s Licence and ability to drive
- Availability for 20 – 40 hours per week, with short-notice shift flexibility
- Ability to work rotating shifts (morning, evenings, weekends)
- Basic computer and smartphone skills for documentation and reporting
Desirable:
- Minimum NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2 or 3), or willingness to obtain
- Experience working with children or people with challenging behaviour
- Understanding of the Children’s Act 2014 and Code of Rights
- Experience or training in Diabetes support (or willingness to obtain)
