Full-Time
Do you have a passion for empowering young people to overcome challenges and achieve their potential?
Capital Training is seeking a qualified Youth Worker to join our dedicated team, supporting rangatahi enrolled in our He Poutama Rangatahi – Future Pathways programme. This is an opportunity to make a lasting difference by helping young people build confidence, develop life skills, and transition into education, training, and meaningful employment.
Working across our Lower Hutt, Thorndon Quay, and Porirua campuses, you’ll become part of a supportive organisation committed to creating positive outcomes for young people throughout the Wellington region.
About Capital Training
Capital Training is a respected private training establishment dedicated to helping people build brighter futures through education, personal development, and employment pathways. We provide practical, learner-focused programmes that equip people with the skills, confidence, and support they need to succeed in further education, training, and the workforce.
Our He Poutama Rangatahi – Future Pathways programme supports young people who may be disengaged from education or employment by providing personalised guidance, wellbeing support, life skills development, and pathways into sustainable futures. Our approach is strengths-based, culturally responsive, and focused on helping every young person realise their potential. Importantly, our commitment doesn’t end when a learner leaves campus—we continue to provide ongoing support and encouragement as they transition into employment, further education, apprenticeships, or training to help ensure long-term success.
About the Role
As a Youth Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing and personal development of our learners. You’ll build strong, trusting relationships while helping young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-on-one mentoring, coaching, and pastoral care.
- Completing HEADDSSS assessments and developing individual support plans.
- Supporting learners with goal setting, motivation, resilience, and personal development.
- Delivering engaging classroom workshops covering wellbeing, life skills, communication, healthy relationships, resilience, financial capability, and employability.
- Working collaboratively with tutors to support learner engagement, attendance, and achievement.
- Identifying risks and responding appropriately to wellbeing concerns.
- Liaising with whānau, employers, tertiary providers, health professionals, and community organisations to coordinate support.
- Referring learners to appropriate external services where required.
- Providing ongoing post-programme support to young people as they transition into employment, further education, apprenticeships, or training, helping them overcome challenges and maintain positive outcomes.
- Maintaining accurate case notes, learner records, and reporting requirements.
- Promoting a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about seeing young people succeed and who can build genuine, respectful relationships with learners from diverse backgrounds.
You’ll ideally have:
- A recognised qualification in Youth Work (or a closely related discipline).
- Experience working with young people facing barriers to education, employment, or wellbeing.
- Experience completing HEADDSSS assessments and developing individual support plans.
- Strong knowledge of youth development, trauma-informed practice, and strengths-based approaches.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
- The confidence to deliver engaging workshops and facilitate group learning.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A sound understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and safeguarding responsibilities.
- A full New Zealand driver’s licence.
Experience working alongside Māori and Pasifika communities, along with an understanding of Te Ao Māori and culturally responsive practice, will be highly regarded.
