Capital Training is one of the largest providers of fees-free foundation education in the Wellington Region. We offer a large and varied programme of further education qualification courses and employment preparation training as well as extensive community and work-based provision. We have a diverse, enthusiastic student community, taught and supported by well-qualified, dedicated staff. Our six main centres in Wellington, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua, Paraparaumu and Waipukurau are all easily accessible, offering high-quality teaching and learning facilities. Our mission is “Building on strengths, achieving goals and developing skills for life”.

We are looking for an experienced and well-connected Work Broker to join our He Poutama Rangatahi – Future Pathways team on a fixed-term, part-time basis (3 days per week). This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has established relationships with employers and MSD and is passionate about creating meaningful employment opportunities for rangatahi.

This is a hybrid role that combines employer engagement and job brokerage, employability training delivery, one-on-one coaching and job readiness support, and work experience coordination. You will actively engage with employers, industry partners, recruitment agencies, and MSD to secure sustainable employment opportunities, while also working directly with rangatahi to prepare them for employment, match them to suitable opportunities, and provide ongoing support to ensure long-term success.

You will work across three campuses (one day per site), supporting rangatahi at different stages of their journey – from classroom-based employability training through to individual coaching sessions and direct connection with employers and work experience opportunities.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on relationship building, enjoys working across both employers and young people, and has strong existing networks within the Wellington business community and MSD.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, businesses, recruitment agencies, and industry partners across the Wellington region.
  • Leverage existing employer and MSD networks to generate employment opportunities for rangatahi.
  • Develop new employer partnerships through networking, community engagement, and business development.
  • Work closely with MSD/Work and Income and other stakeholders to support employment outcomes.
  • Identify suitable job opportunities and match rangatahi to employment based on skills, strengths, and aspirations.
  • Support rangatahi with CV preparation, cover letters, interview skills, and job search strategies.
  • Coordinate access to relevant industry training and employment pathways where required.
  • Provide ongoing post-placement support to both employers and rangatahi to ensure successful employment retention.
  • Work with employers and rangatahi to resolve workplace issues and support sustainable employment outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and meet all MSD contract reporting requirements.
  • Represent Capital Training at employer meetings, networking events, and community engagements.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in employment services, recruitment, business development, account management, or a similar relationship-focused role.
  • Established networks with employers, businesses, recruitment agencies, and/or MSD within the Wellington region that can be leveraged to create employment opportunities for rangatahi.
  • Experience working with MSD, Work and Income or similar employment-focused organisations.
  • Strong understanding of the local labour market and employment trends.
  • Excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.
  • A proven ability to identify opportunities and connect people to meaningful employment.
  • Experience engaging and supporting young people, particularly those who are disengaged from education, employment or training, and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships that inspire confidence and motivation
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • A full New Zealand Driver Licence.
  • Experience working alongside Māori and Pasifika communities, together with an understanding of Te Ao Māori and culturally responsive practice, will be highly regarded.

At Capital Training, you will become part of a passionate and supportive team committed to changing lives through education, employment and opportunity. You will have the opportunity to build strong community and employer partnerships, while directly supporting rangatahi to develop the confidence, skills and pathways they need to achieve sustainable employment.
