Part Time, Fixed-Term Hospitality Tutor Required!
Capital Training is one of the largest providers of fees free foundation education in the Wellington Region. We offer a large and varied programme of further education qualification courses and employment preparation training as well as extensive community and work-based provision. We are seeking a Hospitality Tutor (barista skills) to join our Kapiti and Porirua training centres. This is a part time, fixed term position, commencing as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.! This role is for three days per week with the potential for another day.
The successful applicant may have prior experience in teaching young adults (16-19 year olds) but if not, a passion for barista training, enthusiasm for teaching, excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and effective time and classroom management are a must.
The ideal candidate will have
- A minimum three years’ experience in the hospitality environment with recent barista experience
- Current and up to date knowledge of espresso coffee machines
- A passion for good coffee and customer service
- National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational/Workplace) or a willingness to complete the certificate as part of professional development.
- NZQA Unit Standard 4098, or a willingness to complete it.
- Experience working with foundation level learners and the ability to engage them in learning would be an advantage.
- Passion for coffee/ pride of being a barista and enthusiastic to train others
- Knowledge and experience in managing front of house
- Basic cooking skills would be advantageous
- A tertiary qualification would also be advantageous
- A passion to teach and empower young people, being themselves a quick learner and self-motivated.
- Excellent classroom management skills.
- A hard-working attitude, able to create a fun, interesting and dynamic classroom.
Key Tasks:
- To tutor the Youth Guarantee (YG) programme – NZ Certificate of Hospitality Level 2
- Actively manage the classroom, supervising and facilitating directed and self-paced learning
- Carry out NZQA assessments, mark learners’ work and provide feedback
- Conduct ‘plan and review’ sessions to coach learners through their individual learning plans
- Design activities to maximise learning engagement
- Sourcing/engaging external work experience roles for learners
- Take an active role in ensuring that the Centre runs smoothly
