The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a permanent, part-time (0.8 FTE) Clinical Nurse Specialist: Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) to join our personable and innovative Quality & Risk team.

Reporting to the Quality & Risk Manager, the Clinical Nurse Specialist: IPC leads our business in crucial IPC education, systems and controls.

Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • stewardship of Braemar’s IPC Programme, with regular review to ensure currency, in consultation with the Quality & Risk Manager, IPC committee and other stakeholders.
  • acting as a nursing resource to provide expert advice and education to nursing staff and other healthcare professionals, as well as patients and their whānau.
  • consulting with relevant clinical staff to implement and evaluate appropriate infection prevention and control measures for staff and patients with infectious diseases.
  • contributing to the implementation of systems that collect, analyse and recommend improvement to infection prevention and control practices using evidence-based advice in all departments, both clinical and non-clinical.
  • engaging organisationally to improve and grow the calibre of IPC practices and organisational IPC capacity.
  • ensuring new employees receive screening and orientation specific to infection prevention and control.
  • supporting the business to identify and address IPC issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • completion of daily MDRO surveillance of booked admissions.

To be successful in this role

Essential

  • Current registration and annual practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
  • A minimum of five years of postgraduate clinical experience in an area of specialisation.
  • Postgraduate certificate in a relevant area of nursing or health leadership.
  • Proven success in quality improvement activities that demonstrate your dedication to evidence-based practice and ability to work compassionately with people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the application of critical thinking to varied scenarios.
  • Ability to work within a team and establish meaningful relationships across the organisation.
  • Being approachable and proactive with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent facilitation, coordination and time management skills.
  • Commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as well as enabling and including people of diverse backgrounds.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate Diploma or higher in area of relevant nursing or health leadership
  • Current expert level or above nursing portfolio achieved via a Nursing Council of New Zealand-approved Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP).
  • A genuine passion for continuous learning and development, including an ability to inspire others to grow.
