The Role

The purpose of this role is to lead the development and delivery of mechanical engineering capability within BG&E Minerals, supporting its continued growth in the Mining and Minerals sector across Queensland. This role provides technical leadership, drives engineering excellence, and ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and cost-effective solutions across a portfolio of studies and projects. Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development of engineering specifications, equipment selection, and design methodologies, ensuring alignment with industry best practice and client requirement
  • Provide subject matter expertise in materials handling systems, plant design, and equipment performance optimisation
  • Oversee and undertake complex mechanical design and analysis to ensure safety, compliance, constructability, and operational efficiency
  • Evaluate and validate the performance of mechanical systems across construction, commissioning, and operational phases
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering capability development within the team
  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination, ensuring integrated and efficient project outcomes across engineering disciplines
  • Manage and review technical deliverables including reports, drawings, and calculations to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality
  • Act as a key client interface, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Contribute to business development activities including proposal preparation, client engagement, and identification of new opportunities
  • Lead or actively participate in risk assessments, design reviews, and interdisciplinary workshops
  • Ensure all work is delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, and BG&E systems and governance frameworks

About You

As a senior leader within BG&E Minerals, you will bring strong technical expertise alongside leadership capability, contributing both to project delivery and the broader growth of the business.

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Extensive industry experience (typically 8–12+ years post-graduation) in mining, minerals processing, or heavy industry environments
  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design for complex projects and delivering practical, constructible solutions under site constraints
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineering teams
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging clients, contractors, and site-based personnel
  • Commercial awareness and experience contributing to project planning, budgeting, and delivery outcomes
  • Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities and drive outcomes
