Job Description: Senior Packaging Technician

    Reports To: Pack Team Lead and Brewery Manager 

    Inter-relationships:  Head Brewer, Cellar Lead 

    Primary Function: A senior packaging technician acts as the technical anchor of the packaging floor. This role combines strong knowledge of all packaging machinery operations with the responsibility of coordinating the daily workflow and maintaining rigorous Quality Assurance standards. You are the “first responder” for troubleshooting and the primary mentor for junior technicians.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    Technical Leadership & Coordination

    • Workflow Oversight: Coordinate the daily start-up and shut-down of the canning and kegging lines, ensuring the team is positioned effectively for maximum efficiency.
    • On-the-Floor Mentorship: Train junior staff and casual employees on SOPs, machine safety, and quality checks (seam checks, DO levels, etc.).
    • Technical Troubleshooting: Serve as the primary point of contact for mechanical issues on the Canning Lines, filler heads & Seamers. Performing immediate repairs or escalating to the Brewery manager when necessary.
    • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify bottlenecks in the packaging process and suggest practical workflow adjustments to improve output.

    Production & Quality Control

    • Expert Operation: Master-level operation of canning lines, depalletizers, labellers, and date coders.
    • QA/QC Ownership: Conduct and record dissolved oxygen (DO) tests, carbonation checks, and seam inspections. Ensure all products meet Behemoth’s sensory and technical specifications before leaving the floor.
    • Inventory Readiness: Audit packaging supplies (cans, lids, labels, wrap) 24–48 hours in advance of runs to prevent downtime.
    • Software Management: Accurately enter production data, stocktakes, and QC logs into Abel brewery software.

    Cellar & Warehouse Support

    • Bright Tank Management: Assist in carbonating beer and performing CIP/SIP on bright tanks and packaging lines.
    • Warehouse Precision: Ensure finished goods are wrapped, labeled, and stored correctly in the chiller; assist with weekly/monthly stocktakes.
    • Sanitation Standards: Maintain a “tour-ready” level of cleanliness in the packaging hall at all times.

    Preferred Qualifications & Experience

    • Expertise: 2+ years of experience specifically with Wild Goose or Alpha canning lines.
    • Technical Aptitude: Strong mechanical “knack” for troubleshooting pumps, sensors, and pneumatic systems.
    • Physicality: Ability to lift 25kg repetitively and handle 65kg kegs safely.
    • Leadership Style: A “lead by example” attitude—ready to jump into the grit of the work while keeping an eye on the bigger picture.
    • Credentials: Forklift certification and a deep understanding of HACCP/Health & Safety protocols.
