Summary:

Bayleys in the North is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team based in Orewa, Auckland. This is a permanent, full-time position that plays an important role in supporting our Finance Manager across a broad range of accounting and finance administration functions.

Key responsibilities include accounts payable, reconciliations, month-end processes, Xero processing and general finance administration. The role also requires a sound understanding of payroll processes to provide backup support when needed.

We are looking for someone who demonstrates a high level of accuracy and confidentiality, with excellent attention to detail and strong time management skills. A solid working knowledge of Xero and Excel is essential, and experience with PropertySuite would be an advantage.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in producing accurate work, and values being part of a collaborative and supportive team.

What you’ll do

  • Support the Finance Manager across a broad range of accounting and finance administration tasks.
  • Complete daily bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Process supplier invoices, payment runs, journals and general finance transactions.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end processes, reporting and reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate finance records and supplier information.
  • Provide backup payroll support when required.
  • Respond to internal and supplier finance queries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Contribute to process improvements and support the wider Finance team as needed.

What you’ll bring

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Payable or similar finance role.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Sound working knowledge of Xero and Microsoft Excel.
  • Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A professional and confidential approach to finance and payroll information.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative team-focused attitude.
  • Experience with Property Suite would be beneficial, but not essential.
