EOI – Community Member – Te Kaunihera (Māori Advisory Committee)
We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced and
community-connected individuals to join Te Kaunihera as Community Members, with
two (2) positions currently available.
About the role
Tenure: Remunerated appointment (three-year
term)
This role provides an opportunity to contribute your
mātauranga, strategic advice, cultural awareness, and community perspectives to
support the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP)
in its commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and meaningful engagement
with Māori communities.
RANZCP is the peak professional body for psychiatry in
Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia, responsible for training, education, and
supporting psychiatrists across both countries.
Te Kaunihera operates as a key advisory body to the
Practice, Policy and Partnerships Committee, contributing to strategic
priorities, policy development, and advocacy in relation to Māori mental
health, wellbeing, and the practice of psychiatry.
The successful applicant will bring a strong understanding
of kaupapa Māori values and aspirations, along with the ability to provide
high-level governance guidance and constructive advice. We are looking for
individuals who are respected within their iwi, hapū, or communities and who
can contribute to informed, future-focused decision-making for RANZCP as it
continues to progress towards Te Tiriti o Waitangi centricity.
Community Members are appointed for a term of three (3)
years from the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting in the year of
appointment and are eligible for reappointment, with a maximum total term of up
to twelve (12) years. Community Members may also be considered for appointment
as Co-Chair of Te Kaunihera.
Community Members are expected to actively participate in
Committee activities, including attendance at meetings and preparation for
discussions. This includes:
- Two (2) online meetings and two (2) full-day
in-person meetings per year
- Preparation for meetings, including reading
provided materials
- Participation in out-of-session work as required
- Opportunities to contribute to other College
working groups or projects, where relevant, through expressions of interest
- Community Members are remunerated for their participation,
including attendance at meetings and approved activities, in accordance with
the RANZCP Community Member Remuneration Policy.
Key attributes include:
- Strong connections with Māori communities,
whānau, hapū, iwi, or Māori networks
- Lived experience and/or experience within
community, whānau, or advocacy contexts, including engagement with mental
health services and/or psychiatrists
- An understanding of governance principles and
strategic thinking
- The ability to contribute collaboratively within
an advisory environment
- Confidence in providing cultural advice and
Māori perspectives
- A commitment to improving outcomes for Māori
- Excellent communication and
relationship-building skills
- Previous governance, advisory, leadership, or
community advocacy experience will be highly regarded.
Te Kaunihera plays an important role in strengthening
partnerships, informing organisational direction, and ensuring Māori voices are
reflected in planning, policy, and service delivery.
