Summary:

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals for our Veterinarian Specialist Internships for the 2027 intake.

About us

ARC Vets is a private independently owned and operated animal referral practice established in 2016. We have two modern and amazing Auckland sites – Freemans Bay, Auckland City and Albany, North Shore.

We operate a 24 hour / 7-day week operation for emergency medicine. We also have specialists in small animal surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, and critical care. Dermatology is available at ARC North.

We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital including full in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer blood gases, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

The Veterinarian Specialist Rotating internship 2027 intake

A 12-month fixed term rotating internship starting in Jan 2027. Core rotations include internal medicine, surgery, critical care, and primary emergency receiving. The remainder of the internship comprises additional rotations in other disciplines including diagnostic imaging, dermatology, ophthalmology, oncology and neurology as well as time for electives both on- and off-site.

The programme provides a unique opportunity to experience a broad range of specialist disciplines without needing to leave New Zealand. You will develop a foundation for a high level of competency in all aspects of small animal practice and preparation for further training/specialisation. We will give you the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills in a supportive, cohesive environment.

The hospital has a dedicated ICU with ventilators and high-flow oxygen therapy, full in-house Idexx laboratory, Radiometer blood gas and electrolyte machine, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, MRI and CT. There are dedicated cat and dog reception areas, consulting rooms and wards. The hospital has been designed to meet or exceed Gold Cat Friendly Clinic standards, reflecting our commitment to provide outstanding feline care.

The internships provide numerous opportunities for learning through daily hospital rounds, interaction with our specialist team, regular journal club and internal training sessions. A mentor for the duration of the programme will be assigned, depending on your area of interest. This mentorship will help you in your professional development and career progression as a veterinarian. The preparation of a case report or other manuscript suitable for peer-reviewed publication will be strongly encouraged and supported.
