We are looking for reliable, passionate and enthusiastic casual nurses to join our ER team at both Auckland clinics (Albany & Freemans Bay) to provide assistance during peak periods, annual leave cover and our preparing from our busy summer season

Competitive hourly rate $31 – $35 gross per hour plus 20% night and weekend allowance.

Main responsibilities
No two days will ever be the same! Here is a taste of what you will be involved in…
- Patient handling and monitoring.
- Urgent triage following ARC protocols (including resuscitation, stabilisation and assisting with assessment as necessary);
- Assessment of the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, and examination before referral to the appropriate vet. Assessment can be via telephone or 1:1 consultation with patient.
- Follow-up of patient test results and communication with clients where appropriate.
- Administration of medications, including dose calculations, and charted instructions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Collection and submission of diagnostic samples.
- Preparation of patients for procedures.
- Provision of patient’s basic needs (food, water, exercise), comfort and hygiene in accordance with practice standards.
- Performing diagnostic imaging studies.
- Monitoring of anaesthetics.
- Assisting other clinical team members as required.
- Undertaking patient discharge, ensuring clients understand the diagnosis, outcome and after-care follow-up arrangements.
- Maintaining high standards of infection control.
- Assisting in surgery.
- Preparation of notes, invoicing and liaising with clients and referring vets.
Hours of work
- Our nurses work various shifts to fit around the clinic requirements and work life balance
- The shifts are 10-12 hours usually starting at 6pm or 6am.
- Shifts are offered to our group of casual nurses and are granted to those who accept the shifts and are available to work.

Skills and experience
The successful candidate will:
- Be a team player
- A veterinary nursing qualification and/or at least 1 years’ experience as a veterinary nurse is required, ER experience is a bonus!
- Hold a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree is ideal but not essential
- Deliver an exceptionally high standard of patient care
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Be extremely reliable & willing to work shifts, including weekends & public holidays
- Have the legal right to work in New Zealand
