AEC New Zealand is seeking a HR Coordinator to support the delivery of day to day people operations. Working closely the broader People & Culture team, the role provides generalist HR support across recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, payroll and timesheet coordination, training administration, and workforce support for project teams.
This role plays an important part in ensuring employees and leaders receive timely, practical,
and operationally focused HR support within a fast paced construction and renewable energy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support end to end recruitment activities including advertising, screening, interview coordination, reference checking, onboarding, and mobilisation
- Assist managers and supervisors with day to day HR advice and employee queries
- Coordinate onboarding, inductions, employment documentation, and system setup
- Provide support across payroll and timesheet processes to ensure accuracy and timely submission
- Maintain employee records and data within Employment Hero and associated systems
- Support employee relations matters including investigations, performance conversations, and policy guidance
- Coordinate training bookings, compliance records, licences, and competency tracking
- Assist with people reporting, HR administration, and project mobilisation requirements
- Support the implementation of HR processes, systems, and operational improvements across NZ operations
- Build strong working relationships with site teams and operational leaders to provide responsive people support
- Ensure HR practices remain compliant with New Zealand employment legislation and company policies
Key Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a HR Coordinator, HR Administrator, Recruitment Coordinator, Payroll Coordinator, or similar people support role
- Exposure to payroll, timesheets, or workforce coordination within construction, infrastructure, industrial, or project environments is highly regarded
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
- Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across operational and corporate teams
- Practical and solutions focused approach with strong attention to detail
- Experience using HRIS and payroll systems, ideally Employment Hero or similar platforms
- Sound understanding of confidentiality and professional handling of sensitive information
- Knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and HR practices is desirable
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment
- A proactive mindset with a willingness to support evolving business and project needs
Location: The position will be primarily based in Christchurch, however Taupō may be considered for the
right candidate due to project growth and operational requirements in the area.
