Summary:

As a Stevedore in Southland, New Zealand, you will play a crucial role in the logistics and supply chain industry by assisting with the efficient and safe loading and unloading of vessels. Reporting to the Business Lead/Ship Lead, you will be part of a skilled team working on the wharf or on the vessel, ensuring that cargo operations are conducted with precision and care. This permanent full-time position offers guaranteed hours and opportunities for increased hours as you progress in your role, contributing to the 24/7 operations of the Bluff facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the loading and unloading of vessels, ensuring cargo is handled safely and efficiently.
  • Operate ship’s cranes, excavators, forklifts, and diggers as required.
  • Follow instructions meticulously to ensure compliance with safety and operational protocols.
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness to perform tasks effectively, including working at heights.
  • Participate in training programmes to enhance skills and knowledge related to stevedoring and mobile plant operations.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations during shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Travel to out ports throughout New Zealand as required to support various business units.

Qualifications:

  • Current full driver’s licence.
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work at heights.
  • Prior experience in stevedoring or mobile plant operations, including digger driving and lifting equipment, is desirable.
  • Willingness to undergo training for skill development in stevedoring and cargo handling.
