Summary of the role:

The Recreation Manager is responsible for the overall performance of YNT Recreation Facilities, in particular managing the operational and financial performance, and managing key stakeholder relationships.

The Recreation Manager also has responsibility for staff management, financial planning and management and reporting, risk management, program and service delivery.

From time-to-time, the role may also be responsible for managing other sites at the direction of the Head of Recreation & Aquatics.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Comply and operate the centre within budget parameters.
  • Identify and communicate cost saving actions.
  • Review and approve timesheets and payroll reports ensuring accuracy and within agreed timeframes.
  • Comply with all requirements of the procurement end-to-end process and the Delegations of Authority
  • People and Culture
  • Drive a culture of supervision, support and motivation for all staffing levels.
  • Lead the implementation of effective systems for information dissemination and staff management.
  • An environment of innovation and ideas is encouraged and valued.
  • Lead a culture where reporting mechanisms are highlighted, advocated and supported, particularly the whistle blower line, and complaint mechanisms.
  • Strategy and Business Planning
  • Develop both long term and short-term goals for the successful operation of the facility (including program development and strategies for long term success).
  • Develop and present annual Business Plan that aligns with the Recreation & Aquatics sector and the Y Northern Territory Group Business Plans, ensuring involvement from a range of sources, including staff and the community. Liaise with management to ensure that all matters and procedures relating to government funding are complied with in accordance with appropriate guidelines and, where, applicable, submissions for funding to relevant authorities are made and funds applied in accordance with the relevant guidelines and approvals.
  • Business Development & Stakeholder Management
  • Build close relationships with key stakeholders understanding what matters to them.
  • Identify opportunities that will strengthen the Y Northern Territory’s relationship with key stakeholder groups.
  • Assist the Area Manager in developing, coordinating and implementing marketing plans designed to maintain and increase existing business and capture new opportunities within the Centre.
  • Quality and Risk Management
  • Ensure effective management practices are implemented to mitigate risk and ensure the health and safety of workers, clients and visitors.
  • Ensure consultation practices are in place to enable workers to be involved in risk management planning, incident reporting and safe work practice activities to improve work, health and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with respect to risk management requirements and Y Northern Territory policy and procedures including but not limited to: Critical Incident Policy, Incident reporting, Hazard management / hierarchy, Essential Qualification policy, Safeguarding Policies.
  • Public Relations and Professional Conduct
  • Actively support Y Northern Territory’s purpose and values.
  • Operate in line with Y Northern Territory’s Code of Conduct and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Project a positive, constructive image of Y Northern Territory in the community.
  • Develop and maintain networks and partnerships with relevant organisations and liaise with stakeholders and outside agencies.

Qualifications you bring to the role:

  • Relevant industry experience in a management position or as a Coordinator ready to move into a leadership position.
  • Highly developed observation and reporting skills.
  • Experience in managing staff.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety practices.
  • Well-developed communication and time management skills and the ability maintain rapport with persons from all levels within the organisation.
  • Proficiency in using business software and technology.
  • Regular participation in and a commitment to professional development.
  • Current NT driver’s license.
  • First Aid and CPR qualifications.

Mandatory requirements of employment (to be maintained throughout employment)

  • Valid Working with Children Clearance.
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003 or higher) an CPR
