Description

About The Remote Pools Project:

The Remote Pools Project is a community led program that improves the health and vitality of First Nations communities, for present and future generations.

Pools are much more than a place to swim, and for nowhere more so than in a remote community. Local swimming pools are a vital and valuable community resource – places to gather, connect, clean off and cool down on a hot day!

The Opportunity:

The Y NT is seeking an Aquatic Coordinator or Duty Manager to join our Remote Pools Project team and support the ongoing operation of Borroloola Pool.

This is a full-time, ongoing position, with an anticipated commencement in early November 2026. Unlike some of our seasonal remote aquatic facilities, Borroloola Pool operates year-round and is an important community facility for the Borroloola community.

Responsibilities:

  • Safe Pool Operations: Support the safe and effective day-to-day operation of Borroloola Pool, ensuring a welcoming environment for the whole community.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and support local staff, lifeguards and other team members to deliver safe and engaging aquatic experiences.
  • Aquatic Safety: Provide lifeguard supervision and maintain high standards of water safety, emergency response and risk management.
  • Program Delivery: Support and deliver aquatic, recreational, water safety and community programs based on local needs.
  • Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with community members, local organizations and stakeholders and identify opportunities for partnerships, programs and events.
  • Pool Plant Operations: Support water quality monitoring, testing and general pool plant operations. Aquatic Coordinators will have greater responsibility for ensuring plant and water-quality requirements are effectively managed.
  • Staff Administration: Assist with staff rostering, timesheets, training, onboarding and ongoing development.
  • Facility Presentation: Maintain a clean, safe, inclusive and welcoming facility for staff and community members.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with Y NT procedures, relevant legislation and aquatic industry standards.
  • Site Management: Aquatic Coordinators will have additional responsibility for operational planning, reporting, budgeting, staffing and overall site performance.

    Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • Current Pool Lifeguard qualification.
    • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
    • Current driver’s license.
    • Experience within the aquatic, recreation, sport or community services sector.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability and willingness to live and work in a remote First Nations community.
    • Willingness to learn about and understand the local community, culture and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
    • Ability to build respectful and effective relationships in a cross-cultural environment.

    Highly regarded:

    • Pool Plant Operations / Aquatic Technical Operator qualification.
    • Previous experience supervising or coordinating an aquatic facility.
    • Experience leading and developing staff.
    • Swim teaching or aquatic program delivery qualifications and experience.
    • Previous experience living or working in a remote community.

    • Accommodation provided, including utilities and internet.
    • Shared vehicle access for work purposes.
    • $10,000 p.a. Remote Living Allowance (pro rata where applicable).
    • Not-for-profit salary packaging of up to $15,900 tax-free/FBT exempt, plus up to $2,650 for meals and entertainment.
