About the role:
The Deadly Choices Coordinator is responsible for planning, delivering, promoting and evaluating the Deadly Choices program to support improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This includes implementing initiatives that reduce chronic disease risk factors, promote smoking cessation, and encourage healthy nutrition and physical activity.
The position reports to the Allied Health Manager and receives professional support from the Deadly Choices Regional Manager, Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH).
The Coordinator provides leadership and supervision to the Deadly Choices Program Officers and works collaboratively with the Primary Health Care and Child, Youth and Family Services teams to achieve effective client and community outcomes
Key responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with both IUHI Regional Manager, Wuchopperen Allied Health Manager and Program Officers to implement detailed Deadly Choices Action Plans, ensuring quality and effective communication.
- Coordinate and apply delivery of the Deadly Choices education program, distribute health information, and support participants in making healthy lifestyle choices.
- Work with the Manager of Allied Health Service to employ appropriate Deadly Choices Team members and work in coordination with IUIH for all onboarding and training of Deadly Choices Officers and program requirements.
- Liaise with Deadly Choices member service to strengthen referral pathways and collaborate on local events and health promotion activities.
- Monitor service delivery, and support staff with data entry, evaluation and CQI, reporting, and attend performance meetings with IUIH staff to ensure compliance with service delivery requirements,
- Conduct regular team meetings to monitor performance, set and achieve priorities, manage workflow, and allocate staffing resources effectively, supporting the team to achieve the objectives outlined in Schedule One of the Deadly Choices Contract.
- Maintain team standards and uphold organisation values and behaviours.
- Facilitate staff capability development through the development, implementation and monitoring of Employee Review and Development Plans (ERDPs) and provide ongoing upskilling, mentoring and support to Deadly Choices Program Officers.
- Work with the Communications and Marketing team to ensure consistent campaign messaging, manage social media plans and collect program feedback and testimonials.
- Gather and record statistical data relevant to measuring performance against agreed indicators and participate in review and evaluation activities.
- Participate in organisational and community activities to advance the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Work within Wuchopperen’s Policies and Procedures including the Staff Code of Conduct and the Work Health and Safety requirements and contribute to continuous improvement processes to ensure compliance with relevant standards and safe, effective service delivery.
- Other duties as required, within your skills, experience and capacity.

Qualifications and experience:
- Certificate IV or above in a relevant health prevention qualification (i.e. Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Fitness or equivalent preferred)
- It is a condition of employment in this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough) and hepatitis B
- It is recommended for the employee to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
- The Deadly Choice Coordinator is an Identified position. - Possession of a current CPR certificate or commitment to obtain within the first six weeks of employment is essential.
- Possession of a current Queensland “CA” class driver’s licence is essential.
- Commitment to work within the principles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community control including a willingness to develop the leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
- All employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, students, visitors, volunteers and fellow staff members. Employees must report any hazards or incidents, co-operate in emergency drills, undertake Workplace H&S training as required, and lodge risk assessments for all external and internal risk activities.
- Ability to use Microsoft products and the ability to use or willingness to gain proficiency in the client information management systems.

- Hold a current Blue Card (for suitability to work with children and young people).
- Proof of qualifications is required to be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
- Possess a current driver’s licence.
- A commitment to adhere to Wuchopperen’s policies and procedures.
