Scientific Officer

Vital Chemical is a recognised leader in sustainable environmental solutions, with expertise in erosion control, dust suppression, revegetation, and water treatment.

We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Scientific Officer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an experienced laboratory scientist looking for their next challenge and who has a passion for contributing to impactful research and development projects within the environmental and sustainability industry.

This role will commence as a permanent part-time opportunity working 20 – 25 hours across the week with the potential for additional hours as the role evolves. 

What You’ll Do:

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory and working collaboratively with the Senior Scientific Officer to support research and development initiatives. The position plays a key role in product development, training, and maintaining Vital Chemical’s commitment to environmental, safety, and quality standards.

Other tasks include:

• Conduct research, evaluation, and testing of raw materials and products to support quality, safety, and operational outcomes.
• Perform quality control testing and maintain accurate batch records and laboratory documentation.
• Ensure the correct storage and disposal of product samples in accordance with established procedures.
• Support research and development activities, including growth studies, experimental design, product trials, validation, and continuous improvement projects.
• Research scientific information, analyse data, and assist with interpreting and presenting findings.
• Accurately collect, record, and maintain experimental data and laboratory logs.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports and scientific documentation.
• Undertake general laboratory duties, including sample preparation, experiments, investigations, equipment setup, and housekeeping.
• Monitor laboratory inventory and coordinate the replenishment of supplies and consumables

Maintain laboratory facilities, equipment, and records in compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

About You:

• Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory setting.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline advantageous.
• Understanding of the civil and construction industry advantageous.
• Basic understanding of ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001.
• Strong understanding of scientific methods, technical and data analysis and interpretation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Competent analytical and report writing skills.
• Hands on and proactive approach.
• Professional positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
• Ability to liase with stakeholders at all levels.
• Current drivers licence and reliable transport.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and police check.
