Precontracts Commercial Advisor

We’re looking for a commercially sharp Precontracts Commercial Advisor to take ownership of our

upstream contract review, negotiation and claims process – bringing this expertise in-house and

reducing our reliance on external commercial advice.

What you’ll be doing

  • Review and interpret upstream (client) contracts, building key terms directly into RFQ documentation
  • Manage the traffic of negotiations across both upstream (client) and downstream (subcontractor) relationships
  • Act as a key client-facing point of contact for upstream negotiation and close-out – not business development, but negotiation and resolution
  • Manage upstream claims, variations and issues through to resolution
  • Manage downstream (subcontract) claims and issues
  • Bring precontracts commercial advisory in-house, reducing reliance on external consultants

What you bring

  • Tertiary qualification relevant to commercial/contracts management – Quantity Surveying, Commerce,
  • Construction Management or Law, or equivalent (e.g. RICS/SCSI accreditation, a Contracts Essentials for Precontracts short course, or similar)
  • Hands-on site or construction delivery experience
  • Proven experience managing both upstream (client) and downstream (subcontractor) claims and issues
  • Strong commercial management skills – confident reading, interpreting and negotiating contract clauses
  • Experience within civil, utilities or infrastructure construction highly regarded
  • A credible, confident communicator who's comfortable leading commercial negotiations directly with clients
