About the Role

We’re looking for a quality-focused individual, who is a high-achiever, energetic, detail-oriented, organised, passionate about guest experience, and an excellent communicator to join our team.   The Maintenance & Facilities Field Officer at Urban Rest, is a key front-line, hands-on support role reporting to the Operations Manager. This role is responsible for supporting the Operations team that delivers a flawless guest experience by actioning maintenance requests and day-to-day operational tasks. A successful candidate would be a force for good, who learns quickly, teaches thoroughly, and keeps all stakeholders happy and engaged while not afraid of getting their hands dirty. This is a multi-site, travel-based role for someone experienced in the maintenance and facilities  looking to act in a key role within an Operations team that enjoys digging into and solving facility mysteries across multiple trades and building types.


Responsibilities

Hands-On Maintenance

  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance and repairs using hand tools: furniture assembly, artwork hanging, minor electrical and plumbing, and general ad-hoc jobs
  • Take a hands-on, methodical approach to troubleshooting across multiple disciplines (plumbing, appliances, access hardware, and beyond), from routine fixes to more complex problems
  • Travel to properties across Sydney (and other cities as required) to complete fixes, repairs, and inspections

Property & Preventative Maintenance

  • Conduct regular property inspections and audits across the Sydney portfolio to ensure properties are operating and presenting at their best
  • Coordinate an on-site preventative maintenance plan covering electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and other building/room equipment
  • Prioritise and schedule maintenance and repairs efficiently, reviewing repair cost estimates for management approval and providing sound guidance on costing of repairs.
  • Arrange and record battery replacements for guest-access equipment, including door lock systems and digital lock boxes

Contractor & Vendor Management

  • Manage on-site contractors, including meeting them on site, monitoring work quality and performance, and ensuring repairs meet UR’s safety and service standards
  • Run contractor onboarding and induction across the property network, ensuring contractors hold the necessary training and certifications
  • Assist third parties with access requests

Inventory & Compliance

  • Source parts and materials and maintain inventory levels for serviced apartments/rooms, including regular stock takes to ensure adequate stock on hand
  • Assist the Operations team with test & tag requirements
  • Adhere to safe work practices and WH&S standards, reporting potential risks for review

Projects & Ad Hoc

  • Support projects or specialised work as directed by management
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required

What We Look For

Essential

  • Availability spanning over 7 days per week. Initially, Monday – Friday capacity, as the business grows we seek to move our operations team to 7 day coverage to support our Guest’s needs. 
  • Valid Australian driver’s licence and comfortable driving a work van
  • A proven track record of prioritising tasks to meet tight deadlines. You’ll be working independently around 80% of the time, so strong self-management and time management skills are essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to identify and convey critical information to stakeholders quickly and clearly
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve independently
  • Professional demeanour with a strong ability to build positive working relationships
  • Strong ability to multitask and troubleshoot issues as they arise
  • Comfortable working across multiple teams within the business

Desirable

  • Trades background, with a demonstrated understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
  • A background in construction, hospitality, residential property or maintenance
  • A perfectionist who obsesses over the details
