About the role
We’re looking for a passionate Health Educator to strengthen peer-led sexual health education, community connection and engagement across Victoria’s diverse LGBTQI+ communities.
This is a chance to be a visible, trusted presence across our communities – delivering workshops embedded with sexual health, HIV and STI information, building relationships with people and groups who have lower levels of connection to existing LGBTQI+ organisations, and representing Thorne Harbour Health with universities, community organisations and other external partners.
You’ll join our Health Promotion Team, working alongside fellow Health Educators and volunteers to plan, deliver and evaluate programs that respond to the needs of our communities.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and deliver peer-led workshops covering sexual health, HIV and STI prevention, testing, PrEP and PEP, consent and relationships.
- Maintain a visible community presence through outreach at social groups, universities, TAFEs, events, festivals and venues.
- Proactively identify opportunities for health promotion and establish ongoing relationships and referral pathways with partner organisations.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver community events, workshops and outreach activities, and coordinate volunteers who support this work.
- Collaborate with the broader Health Promotion and Community Engagement team on program planning, monitoring and evaluation.
What’s on offer
In addition to a pay rate at SCHADS Award/SACS Level 4 + superannuation, Thorne Harbour Health pays above award rates. You will also be able to increase your take-home pay by accessing up to $15,900 in salary packaging benefits as well as accessing professional and career development. Hybrid working arrangements are also available.
About you
You will have a tertiary qualification/s in health promotion, public health or a related field OR extensive demonstrated experience working in LGBTIQA+ health, community development or health promotion.
You will also have:
- Strong facilitation, presentation and public-speaking skills, with experience delivering engaging education to diverse groups.
- Knowledge of sexual health, HIV and STIs, testing, PrEP and PEP, and contemporary peer education approaches.
- Demonstrated community development, outreach and relationship-building experience across diverse LGBTQI+ communities.
- Event-management and community-activation experience, including planning, stakeholder coordination and on-the-ground delivery.
- A proactive, organised and self-directed approach, with high-level written and verbal communication skills.
