Disability Support Worker
1:1 Support | Palmview
We’re looking for a mature and experienced Support Worker to provide 1:1 support to an 18-year-old young man living in Palmview.
The participant is non-verbal and has dysphasia, with support needs including personal care, mealtime management and mobility. He uses a wheelchair and requires support with stand transfers.
What could your day look like?
This is a genuine 1:1 role where you’ll get to know the participant, understand his communication and support him to safely take part in everyday activities and community access.
Building social connection is an important part of this role. The participant enjoys interacting with the people around him and benefits from staff who keep him engaged, involved and connected throughout the day.
He enjoys:
- Going to the beach
- Spending time around animals
- Throwing and playing with a ball
- Watching his favourite TV program
- Getting out into the community and experiencing new things
Your role may also include:
- Supporting the participant to access the community and attend activities
- Providing safe wheelchair support and stand transfers
- Supporting with personal care and dual incontinence
- Following mealtime management plans due to choking risk
- Supporting daily routines
- Communicating with the participant and understanding his individual needs
- Maintaining a safe and supportive environment
Community access is an important part of the role, so you’ll need to be confident supporting the participant safely while also considering the safety of both the participant and yourself.
Shift Availability
- 6:00am – 2:00pm
- 2:00pm – 10:00pm
- 2:00pm – 6:00am Sleepover ($140 sleepover allowance)
- 10:00pm – 6:00am Active/Awake
