Description

Retail Manager — AFL Club Store

Full time · Melbourne · TGI Sport Merchandise

Run the store. Own the match day.

TGI Sport is looking for a Retail Manager to take charge of a standalone AFL club store and lead merchandise operations on game days.

It’s a genuinely hands-on role. You’ll run the store through the week, then be on the ground for match days — setting up, trading and packing down retail spaces at the venue, at off-site activations and at away fixtures. No two weeks look the same, and the calendar drives everything.

If you want retail that moves, this one moves.

About TGI Sport

TGI Sport is a tech-led global sports media company, trusted by the world’s premium sporting organisations since 1997. With more than 15 offices and 440 employees worldwide, we support over 5,000 events through pioneering technology solutions, global media rights expertise and leading sports marketing knowledge.

Our TGI Merchandise team are experts in engaging fans through product, working together to create a seamless consumer journey that delivers benchmark outcomes for both fans and our partners.

What you’ll be doing

In store

  • Run day-to-day operations, delivering a high standard of customer experience and a positive retail environment.
  • Own store performance — sales, targets, presentation, merchandising standards and product displays.
  • Manage stock levels, replenishment and inventory accuracy alongside our warehouse and inventory teams.
  • Ensure POS systems, cash handling procedures and operational processes are followed correctly.

On event days

  • Plan and deliver retail operations for match days, off-site activations and away fixtures.
  • Coordinate the setup, trading and pack-down of temporary retail locations.
  • Manage stock allocation and product assortment for event-based sales.
  • Keep event retail spaces well merchandised and commercially effective.
  • Troubleshoot on the fly in fast-paced event environments.

Leading your team

  • Roster casual and part-time staff across both store and event operations.
  • Onboard, train and provide day-to-day direction during trading and event days.
  • Build a team culture focused on customer service and sales performance.

Working with the wider business

  • Support the Senior Retail Manager in delivering retail sales targets and operational goals.
  • Provide insight on product performance, customer feedback and sales trends.
  • Support product launches, promotions and retail campaigns.
  • Maintain high standards of operational compliance and reporting.

You’ll report to the Senior Retail Manager and work closely with teams across Merchandise, Finance and HR, as well as club partners and third-party suppliers.

What we’re looking for

  • Time spent leading a retail team as a store manager, 2IC or supervisor. Including rostering, running a trading day end to end and holding a team to service and sales standards.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings and public holidays across the AFL season. Match days are the core of this role, not an occasional add-on.
  • Willingness to travel interstate for away fixtures and off-site activations.
  • Comfort with the physical side of event retail including setup and pack-down of temporary stores, and manual handling of stock and fixtures.
  • Strong systems capability: POS and ecommerce platforms (Lightspeed and BigCommerce preferred), stock management systems (NetSuite preferred), and solid Excel skills for reporting and stock analysis.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused operator who takes initiative, works autonomously, stays calm under pressure and is comfortable being the decision-maker on site.
  • Genuine interest in sport and a desire to build a career in retail operations.

Nice to have: previous experience in the sporting industry, an understanding of the commercial sports landscape in Australia, and experience working with high-profile brands where discretion matters.
