Description
Be Part of History
The Tasmania Devils Football Club is on a historic journey to build Tasmania’s AFL and AFLW club from the ground up.
As our VFL, VFLW and Academy programs continue to grow, we’re building the sports science capability that will underpin athlete development and performance across our football pathways.
We’re looking for 3 Sport Scientists to join our growing High Performance team.
Opportunities available:
Sport Scientist – VFL | 1 position
Sport Scientist – VFLW | 1 position
These two roles will provide dedicated sports science and athlete monitoring support to either our VFL or VFLW program.
Working within their respective program, each Sport Scientist will coordinate GPS/Catapult collection, quality control and reporting across training and selected matches; analyse physiological, biomechanical, training and match-demand data; maintain individual and positional benchmarks; and provide clear, practical insights to Physical Performance, Physiotherapy and High Performance staff to support programming, rehabilitation, readiness and weekly decision-making.
Sport Scientist – Academy | 1 position
Support testing, profiling, GPS monitoring and physical benchmarking across our Academy programs. You’ll help build individual athlete profiles, maintain high-quality performance data and translate testing and monitoring information into practical insights that support long-term physical development and progression through the pathway.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for Sport Scientists who combine strong technical capability with the ability to make data meaningful for coaches and practitioners.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A degree in Sport/Exercise Science or equivalent
- Practical experience with GPS/Catapult, physical testing and athlete monitoring
- Strong data management, analysis and reporting capability
- Excellent attention to detail and data quality
- The ability to translate complex information into clear, practical performance insights
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary High Performance environment
- ESSA accreditation, or progress towards accreditation, will be highly regarded.
For the VFL and VFLW opportunities, experience managing GPS/Catapult, testing, data and reporting within a performance environment will be particularly valuable. For the Academy opportunity, strong Excel/dashboard/reporting capability and the ability to communicate data simply to coaches and practitioners are specifically important.
The working model
These are casual opportunities based in Hobart, reporting to the High Performance Manager.
The VFL and VFLW roles will involve weekday monitoring and selected match coverage, with support prioritised according to program and performance needs.
The Academy role is predominantly weekday/evening delivery, testing and reporting, with no routine Academy match-day requirement. Occasional camps or integrated testing support may be required.
How to apply
If you’re excited by the opportunity to help build the sports science systems and performance foundations from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you.
When applying, please indicate which opportunity or opportunities you would like to be considered for: VFL | VFLW | Academy.
