Eyre Shellfish (ES) is committed to sustainable shellfish production and continuous improvement in how we care for the environments in which we operate.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys practical work and wants to learn both oyster farming and hatchery production. Experience is welcome, but you don’t need it to apply. What matters is a willingness to get stuck in, follow procedures and work outdoors in all weather.

The role

This permanent, full-time role works flexibly between both our Coffin Bay farm, and at our Kellidie Bay hatchery. It’s an opportunity to start a career in aquaculture or broaden your existing experience while contributing to sustainable oyster production and environmental restoration.

At the Farm, most of your time will be spent working on the water as well as onshore to care for our oysters. Some days are warm and sunny; others are wet, cold and windy. You’ll need to enjoy being on the water and be comfortable with physical farm work.

At the hatchery, you’ll help maintain daily operations when our Senior Hatchery Technician takes rostered days off. This includes monitoring and caring for algae cultures to maintain the food supply for hatchery stock. Our Kellidie Bay hatchery also supports research into breeding razorfish for reef restoration, and your work will help keep the systems running that will ultimately support that research.

About you

You might already have aquaculture experience, or you might be ready to learn. Hatchery experience is highly regarded, but it isn’t essential. We’d particularly like to hear from people who:

• Enjoy hands-on outdoor work and being on the water.
• Can follow detailed procedures, keep accurate records and notice changes in a process.
• Have worked in a process-driven setting, such as a laboratory, food production facility or another aquaculture operation.
• Have recently studied marine science, aquaculture, marine biology, environmental science or a related field and want to gain practical experience.

Roles combining both farm and hatchery work are uncommon, making this a chance to develop skills across both sides of shellfish production.
