Description

Senior Flood Engineer – Build Your Legacy, Not Just Your Career

Are you an experienced Flood Engineer (around 4–10 years in the field) who feels like you’ve hit a ceiling?

You’re exceptional at what you do, building RORB and TUFLOW models, writing tenders, managing projects from subdivisions to major flood studies, but you’re craving more.

You want a role where your initiative isn’t just appreciated, but essential. You’re ready to take on complex challenges and lead projects end-to-end, while working toward a clear path to leadership and business development. You’re not just looking for a job; you’re looking for a platform to build your legacy.

Many talented engineers face a common frustration:

  • Stagnation: Career growth stalls while the same types of projects repeat.
  • Lack of Influence: You have ideas but no support or authority to implement them.
  • Vague Future: Leadership and ownership pathways are unclear, or don’t exist.

At SWM Consulting, we understand that our success depends on helping our people thrive. We’re not just another engineering firm; we’re experienced guides who provide the framework for exceptional engineers to reach their potential. We have the clients, the projects, and the vision, now we need you to help us grow.

🚀 Your 3-Step Path to Leadership

This isn’t a “sink or swim” environment, it’s a “we’ll teach you to swim like a champion” environment.

1. Immerse and Lead:

From day one, you’ll lead diverse projects; quoting, tendering, reviewing models, and delivering high-quality outcomes. You’ll be supported, but trusted to drive results.

2. Mentor and Grow:

Within your first six months, you’ll begin mentoring junior engineers, transitioning from technical expert to team leader. You’ll play a key role in shaping the next generation of flood modellers.

3. Build and Own:

You’ll be actively involved in business development and strategic growth, helping shape SWM’s future. For the right person, this path could include partnership or significant leadership opportunities.

🌧 What You Bring

  • Hydrological & Hydraulic Modelling: Expert-level skills in RORB and TUFLOW (1D/2D).
  • Project Scoping & Management: Proven ability to quote, tender, and manage multiple concurrent projects, from small-scale developments to complex flood studies.
  • Software & Analysis: Strong GIS capability (QGIS, ArcGIS); HEC-RAS experience a bonus.
  • Technical Reporting: Ability to translate complex model outputs into clear, actionable advice for clients and stakeholders.
  • Technical Guidelines: Ability to translate guidelines to ensure best practice modelling is achieved for all assessments.
  • Experience: Typically 4–10 years’ experience in flood modelling, with growing leadership responsibilities.
