Description

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), and as such, only Aboriginal people are eligible to apply.

The SWAMS is a non-Government Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of community programs and has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

Here at SWAMS we have exciting positions available for someone looking to make a difference. As an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, you will be working closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide timely, culturally appropriate and holistic primary health care to our clients, both within the community and clinical environments.

We are looking for AHPs in:

  • Primary Health
  • Chronic Conditions
  • Maternal Child Health

Specific requirements of this position include but are not limited to;

  • Deliver culturally safe, person-centred primary healthcare to Aboriginal clients and communities.
  • Conduct health assessments, immunisations, wound care, venepuncture, and other clinical services within AHPRA scope.
  • Provide health education, follow-up care, recalls, and health promotion activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external providers to support positive health outcomes.
  • Maintain vaccine cold chain compliance and support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold SWAMS policies, professional standards, and child safeguarding requirements.

Essential Criteria

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders descent under section 50(d) Equal Opportunity Act.
  • National Police Clearance
  • Current WA C or CA Class driver’s licence
  • Working with Children Check
  • Current registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with AHPRA.
  • Completion of Certificate IV Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience and interest in Community or Aboriginal Health
  • Current Apply First Aid certificate·
  • Knowledge and expertise in the use of Communicare or similar clinical database system.
  • Current Immunisation certificate or willingness to attain
