Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is seeking an experienced and strategically minded leader to join its Board as an Independent Director. This is a rare opportunity to contribute at the highest level of one of Queensland’s most respected and recognised community organisations—helping guide its future, strengthen governance, and support the delivery of lifesaving services across the state. The successful candidate will be appointed until the SLSQ Annual General Meeting in September 2027.

As an Appointed Independent Director, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members to provide strategic leadership, oversight, and independent insight. You will play a key role in shaping SLSQ’s long-term direction while ensuring strong governance, accountability, and sustainability.

The position of Appointed (Independent) Director is a voluntary role. Directors are not remunerated for their service on the SLSQ Board. The role is undertaken in a voluntary capacity in support of the mission, purpose and strategic objectives of Surf Life Saving Queensland. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred in undertaking approved Board duties may be reimbursed in accordance with SLSQ policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to strategic decision-making and Board discussions
  • Overseeing organisational performance, risk, and compliance
  • Strengthening governance frameworks and accountability
  • Providing independent perspectives and specialist expertise
  • Acting in the best interests of SLSQ, its members, and the wider community

About You:

  • Obtain or hold a Director Identification Number (DIN)
  • Obtain or hold a National Police Check
  • Obtain or hold a Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
  • Meet Corporations Act eligibility requirements
  • Corporate governance expertise
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Financial management experience
  • Risk management capability
  • 7+ years’ Board or Director experience
  • Experience within large or complex organisations (highly regarded)
  • Experience in emergency services, aviation, or asset management (highly regarded)
