Stone Axe Pastoral is looking for a capable, practical and switched-on Assistant Manager to help lead operations across the Petro Aggregation, covering Petro, High Hill and Wilara farms. This is a senior operational role with real ownership across irrigation, machinery, livestock, fodder production and day-to-day farm performance.
Based in Northern WA, approximately three hours from Perth, this role offers the opportunity to live and work on a productive mixed farming aggregation, with accommodation and a vehicle available.

About the Role
This is not a desk job. It is a hands-on, technically demanding role where you will work closely with the WA North Operations Manager to keep the aggregation running safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
The role has a strong focus on centre pivot irrigation systems, cropping and fodder programs, machinery operation and maintenance, livestock operations and general farm infrastructure. You will need to be confident making decisions, solving problems, managing daily work priorities and taking ownership of operational outcomes.
You will be trusted to get things done, keep people safe and make sure the operation runs smoothly.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will play a key role across the full operation, including:
- Taking primary responsibility for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of centre pivot irrigation systems.
- Diagnosing and fixing mechanical and electrical issues across pumps, motors, gearboxes, control systems, machinery and farm infrastructure.
- Operating and maintaining GPS-guided tractors, telehandlers, seeding equipment, haymaking machinery and other farm plant.
- Leading cropping and fodder programs, including seeding, mowing, raking and baling.
- Supporting day-to-day livestock operations, including joining, calving, weaning, scanning, animal health, trucking and testing.
- Maintaining accurate livestock records, treatment records, stock reconciliations and operational reporting.
- Carrying out fencing, water infrastructure repairs, welding, fabrication and general property maintenance.
- Supporting and leading staff and contractors when required.
- Promoting strong safety standards across livestock handling, machinery operation, irrigation maintenance and chemical use.
About You
You are practical, reliable and mechanically minded. You know how to work across a mixed farming operation and you take pride in keeping things running properly.
You will bring:
- Strong experience in irrigation systems, ideally including centre pivots.
- Practical machinery skills and the ability to diagnose and repair issues before they become bigger problems.
- Livestock experience, with good stockmanship and confidence around day-to-day cattle operations.
- Mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability and sound judgement.
- The ability to plan and execute daily and weekly work programs with minimal supervision.
- A strong safety mindset and the ability to lead by example.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with managers, staff, contractors and external specialists.
- An HC licence, or the ability to transition to one.
