Description

Procurement & Purchasing Specialist (Projects) – National

Stirlings Performance Steels | Location flexible (WFH or from SPS Branch)

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a full-time Procurement & Purchasing Specialist to support our Projects team — a nationally focused role that can be based at any of our branches. Reporting to the Projects & Indent Manager, you’ll build packaged solutions for our projects — working with our internal sales team, and at times directly with customers, to put up material options tailored to each project. When a package converts, you’ll manage the orders through: purchasing from domestic suppliers and overseas mills, and staying on top of pricing, lead times and movements. Projects work is dynamic — no two enquiries are the same — so it suits someone who’d rather take on a different order and a new challenge each day than repeat the same one.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll bring procurement or purchasing experience — ideally in steel, metals, manufacturing or industrial supply — with a good commercial head for pricing, negotiation and lead times. Experience with indent and project buying is a real plus, but the right attitude and aptitude matter more to us than a perfect CV, and we’ll teach you our products and the way we work.

What we won’t compromise on is the way you buy. We’re after someone commercially sharp and thorough — the kind of person who negotiates well, reads the market, keeps orders and data accurate, and follows a purchase through to delivery rather than raising a PO and moving on. Strong supplier relationships and clear communication with our Projects and Sales teams are central to this role. If you own your buying end-to-end and enjoy adding real value on cost and supply, you’ll fit in well — and there’s genuine scope to grow with a national business.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Sourcing & Purchasing

• Source and purchase material for projects from domestic suppliers and overseas mills, including indent buys

• Prepare packaged solutions tailored to the customers needs

• Raise, manage and track purchase orders, keeping pricing, quantities and Grades accurate

• Negotiate pricing, lead times and terms to deliver commercial value on every buy

Supporting Project Supply

• Work with the Projects, Sales and Logistics teams to make sure material is bought and scheduled to meet project timelines

• Monitor lead times, stock and incoming supply, flagging risks to delivery early

• Reconcile orders and deliveries, and resolve any pricing or supply discrepancies with suppliers

Managing Suppliers & Records

• Build and maintain strong relationships with mills, suppliers and vendors

• Keep accurate procurement records and pricing data

• Support continuous improvement in purchasing processes and supplier performance

Responsibilities are not limited to those listed above.
