We are currently seeking passionate and enthusiastic Youth Workers for our Residential Services across our programs in Dulwich Hill & Kingsgrove. This is a shift work position where you will be required to work days, evenings, sleepovers and weekend work as the house is operational 24/7. We have permanent part time positions available with up to 60 hour contracts as well as casual positions.
About Stepping Stone House
Stepping Stone House is a not-for-profit charity that provides accommodation and personal development for children and young people aged 12-25 years old who through no fault of their own find themselves at risk of homelessness or unable to live at home. We have a foundation of building resilience through outdoor education and activities.
What you will be doing – Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a safe and supportive home environment.
- Implement the use of boundaries, structure and choice to support young people to learn from their experiences and choose alternative (talking out rather than acting out) methods of meeting needs.
- Build safe and meaningful relationships with young people.
- Uphold behavioural support and intervention plans and support the young people’s emotional and psychological growth as determined by their therapeutic and strength based individualised case management plans.
- Teach age-appropriate independent living such as cooking, cleaning, personal care, budgeting etc.
- Manage group dynamics and individual needs.
- Attend appointments with young people as required.
- Plan, facilitate and supervise engaging recreational activities.
- Complete necessary administrative tasks.
Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum Diploma and working towards tertiary qualifications in social work, youth work or a related field.
- Minimum two years’ experience working with disadvantaged young people in the Out of Home Care (OOHC) Residential Sector, other residential youth settings or similar field.
- In depth understanding of homelessness, the impacts of being removed from home and trauma-based issues of young people in the OOHC Residential Sector.
- Ability to think and act calmly and deal with distressed young people sensitively and confidently and with dignity and respect.
- Demonstrated experience in the ability to maintain professional bounda
- The ability to effectively work autonomously, under supervision and as part of a team.
- Understanding and knowledge of relevant legislation such as OOHC standards, mandatory reporting.
- Strong negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills.
- Ability to follow and implement structured rules, regulations and values.
- A Valid Driver’s License.
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
Remuneration
The position will be paid at SCHADS Level 3 – Pay Point dependent on experience and qualification level.
