ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a Sessional Position within the Academic Division, supporting students during professional or field education placements. The Placement Liaison Officer provides an academic link between students, host organisations, workplace or fieldwork supervisors, and Stanley College. The role involves scheduled liaison contacts and visits, monitoring student learning outcomes, contributing to placement assessment, and identifying and supporting the resolution of emerging academic placement issues. Working under the direction of the Fieldwork Placement Coordinator, the position operates in accordance with approved course, accreditation and placement requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Placement Liaison & Monitoring
- Act as the academic liaison point for allocated students, host organisations and workplace or fieldwork supervisors.
- Conduct scheduled placement contacts and visits through face-to-face or approved technology-enabled methods.
- Monitor student participation, supervision, placement progress and achievement of approved learning outcomes.
- Maintain professional and timely communication with students, supervisors and host organisations.
Learning & Placement Readiness
- Ensure students and supervisors understand placement learning outcomes, assessment requirements, scope of practice and responsibilities.
- Review learning agreements and placement plans and support the development of appropriate learning goals.
- Identify readiness concerns or significant changes to the placement environment and escalate them appropriately.
Placement Assessment & Academic Standards
- Gather and evaluate evidence of student learning and professional practice in accordance with approved assessment requirements.
- Contribute to formative and summative placement assessment, including reports, feedback and recommendations to authorised assessors.
- Apply consistent academic and professional standards and ensure assessment evidence is accurate and submitted within required timeframes.
Student Learning & Support
- Provide constructive feedback, academic guidance and reflective learning support throughout the placement.
- Support students to connect theory, ethical practice and professional standards with their workplace experience.
- Identify academic, professional, wellbeing or engagement concerns and refer students to appropriate academic or support services.
Supervisor & Host Organisation Engagement
- Support workplace and fieldwork supervisors to understand Stanley College expectations, assessment processes and escalation pathways.
- Respond to routine academic queries and provide appropriate guidance and resources.
- Gather feedback on placement quality and identify opportunities for improvement.
Records, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate and timely records of placement contacts, visits, learning plans, assessment evidence, concerns and agreed actions.
- Provide placement progress and risk information to the Fieldwork Placement Coordinator and relevant academic leaders.
- Contribute to course monitoring, accreditation, quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification at least one AQF level higher than the discipline or professional field in which placement liaison is undertaken.
- Current professional registration, membership or practice eligibility where required by the relevant discipline or accrediting body.
- Relevant professional practice experience and an understanding of workplace or field education.
- Experience supporting students, supervising practice learning, conducting placement liaison or assessing professional practice is highly desirable.
- Valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel to placement locations.
- Ability to meet relevant screening, vaccination or clearance requirements applicable to the discipline.
