Senior Consultant (Mining Engineering)
SRK Consulting is an international, independent, employee-owned practice providing integrated consulting services to the resources sector. Our capability spans mining, geotechnical engineering, geology, resource estimation, exploration, tailings, heap leach and waste management.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Mining Engineer with a strong open pit mine planning background, combining operational and consulting or study experience. Candidates with project management capability and exposure to a diverse range of commodities are preferred.
SRK’s mine planning service offering spans operational support to mining clients, technical studies from scoping through to feasibility, and Ore Reserve estimation and public reporting. You can expect to work across several projects a year, spanning different commodities, mining methods and jurisdictions.
You will have the opportunity to develop both your technical skills and your professional network. As you build your experience, the path opens toward Competent Person and Qualified Person sign-off authority, and toward independent technical review and due diligence work for lenders, investors and boards.
As a Senior Mining Engineer with SRK
You will provide specialised consulting services to clients locally and internationally, using your technical knowledge to deliver timely advice, recommendations and project work. You will work alongside experienced practitioners across disciplines, with scope to shape the direction of your own career.
You will be expected to:
- Develop mine plans including mine designs and schedules for open pit projects, from optimisation through to life-of-mine, using industry-standard planning software.
- Deliver mine planning and technical inputs to studies across the scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility stages.
- Provide practical operational support to mining clients, including short and medium-term planning, reconciliation and improvement work.
- Prepare Ore Reserve estimates and supporting documentation to JORC and NI 43-101 standards.
- Work within multidisciplinary teams (geology, geotechnical, resource, environmental) to deliver integrated client outcomes.
- Prepare clear, well-reasoned technical reports that stand up to client and third-party scrutiny.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their technical development.
Our successful candidate will have:
- A recognised degree in mining engineering.
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience, preferably with an open pit and consulting or study background.
- Demonstrable proficiency in mine design and scheduling software.
- Experience in pit optimisation, production scheduling and life-of-mine planning.
- Sound project management capability.
- Experience on operating mines and projects in Australia and/or internationally.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- The ability to prepare high-quality technical reports in English.
- The ability to work independently and within diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
- Chartered Professional status and RPEQ registration is preferred.
- The right to work in Australia. This is a Perth-based role.
In return for considering a future with us, we offer:
- Technically interesting and challenging work within a non-hierarchical and diverse consultancy environment
- Diversity of projects and collaboration with other discipline areas to develop your skills and experience
- Mentoring by colleagues who are global leaders in their fields
- Professional development, flexible work and educational support opportunities
- A competitive salary with an opportunity to purchase shares in the company at both the local and global level; we are an independent organisation owned by current employees
