Position Purpose
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the purpose of your role is:
- The Clinical Governance Manager provides senior clinical leadership, governance and oversight to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred and outcomes-focused care. The role is responsible for strengthening clinical practice across services by providing expert guidance, overseeing complex clinical matters, and ensuring assessment, care planning and service delivery are responsive to each client’s individual needs, preferences, goals and changing circumstances.
- Working collaboratively with clients, families, care teams, leaders and external health professionals, the role supports effective multidisciplinary care coordination and timely responses to clinical risks and changes in client needs. The position provides leadership, coaching and professional support to employees, builds clinical capability and accountability, and promotes a positive culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Through the analysis of clinical outcomes, incidents, trends, feedback and quality indicators, the Clinical Governance Manager identifies opportunities for improvement and leads initiatives that strengthen client safety, service quality, regulatory compliance and the overall effectiveness of clinical care.
Position Responsibilities
As a Clinical Governance Manager, you will be responsible for and assisting with:
Governance frameworks and compliance
- Support the development, implementation and scheduled review of clinical governance frameworks, policies, procedures and controls across SWCC.
- Maintain an organisation-wide compliance and assurance program aligned with the Aged Care Quality Standards, regulatory obligations and evidence-based practice.
- Coordinate accreditation activities and regulatory audits, ensuring evidence is current and corrective actions are assigned, monitored and closed within agreed timeframes.
Risk, incidents and continuous improvement
- Oversee clinical risk and incident management, including timely SIRS assessment and notification, investigation, root-cause analysis and effective follow-up.
- Maintain clinical risk registers and assurance controls, escalating material risks, emerging trends and overdue treatments to the appropriate governance forum.
- Analyse audit, incident, complaint and outcome data to identify trends, lead improvement initiatives and verify that actions deliver sustained results.
Quality and clinical oversight
- Provide governance oversight of assessment, care planning, clinical delegation and service delivery to ensure safe, person-centred and evidence-based care.
- Monitor performance against quality indicators, service standards and internal controls; investigate exceptions and report recommendations to management.
- Provide expert advice and escalation support for complex clinical matters, complaints and feedback, ensuring timely resolution and organisational learning.
Workforce capability and accountability
- Ensure clinical credentials, professional registrations, competencies and scopes of practice are current, verified and documented.
- Develop and deliver targeted education, coaching and guidance in clinical governance, compliance, risk and quality improvement.
- Support leaders to strengthen performance, accountability and consistent practice across multidisciplinary care teams.
Leadership, resources and stakeholder engagement
- Set annual governance priorities, workplans and success measures aligned with SWCC’s strategy, risk profile and service objectives.
- Manage approved governance and other relevant budgets, allocate resources effectively and report material variances and emerging requirements.
- Build productive relationships with regulators, funding bodies, allied health practitioners, clients and other stakeholders, representing SWCC on governance matters.
To thrive in this role you will have:
- Tertiary qualification in Nursing, with current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and demonstrated senior clinical leadership experience within aged care, community health or in-home care services.
- Demonstrated experience leading and overseeing the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred clinical care to older people living in their own homes, including clinical assessment, care planning, review, escalation and coordination of complex care needs.
- Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated application of the legislative, regulatory and clinical governance requirements relevant to in-home aged care, including the Aged Care Act, Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS), restrictive practices requirements, clinical risk management and relevant professional standards.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical guidance to Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and care workers, including supporting clinical decision-making, professional practice, competency development, escalation of clinical concerns and consistent adherence to evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical governance and quality improvement, including the management and review of clinical incidents, medication-related risks, deterioration, falls, wounds, infection prevention and control, complaints and other clinical risks relevant to the delivery of care within a consumer’s home.
- Highly developed analytical and clinical judgement skills, with demonstrated ability to identify emerging clinical risks and trends, interpret incident, quality and clinical performance data, undertake investigations and reviews, and implement evidence-based corrective and continuous improvement actions.
- Highly developed communication, consultation and relationship-management skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with consumers, families and representatives, employees, general practitioners, allied health professionals, hospitals and other health and community service providers to support coordinated and responsive care.
Office Base Location
Based at the Australind Office but will be required to work from other sites.
