Description

At SECL, we don’t just respond to inequality – we challenge it.

We are on a mission to challenge the status quo and work alongside our community to shift the system that keeps people excluded.  We are tearing down those systemic barriers that stand in the way of equal opportunities, especially for multicultural communities, women and young people.   We believe everyone deserves to be seen, heard and valued and that real change happens when communities lead, voices are amplified and power is shared.

Diversity is a strength and by embracing it, we can create a vibrant and inclusive community for everyone.

How you will fit into the bigger picture

We are recruiting for an Events and Engagement Specialist to own the end-to-end operational delivery of SECL’s Bring Your Bills program. Working closely with the Head of Cost of Living, the role will translate program direction into coordinated delivery across multiple events, ensuring councils, venues, service providers, community partners and internal teams are prepared, and events are delivered consistently and effectively. The role will also build and maintain the systems, tools and learnings that strengthen delivery and support the future growth of Bring Your Bills. This role operates from SECL locations and Bring Your Bills event and community locations across Victoria as required. This is a fixed-term opportunity available until the 30th of June 2027.

In this diverse role you will focus on:

Program planning and coordination

  • Manage the end-to-end Bring Your Bills program and project plan across multiple concurrent events, including milestones, dependencies, deadlines, actions and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate program and event planning meetings, maintain clear action tracking and proactively follow up work required for successful delivery.
  • Coordinate SECL team members to ensure that everyone understands their responsibilities and is prepared for each event.

Partner and stakeholder coordination

  • Act as the primary operational contact for councils, venues, participating service providers, community organisations, interpreters, and other delivery partners.
  • Coordinate partner communications, onboarding, ensuring organisations understand event arrangements, expectations, responsibilities and data requirements.

Event delivery

  • Coordinate event logistics including venues, site and stallholder planning, floor layouts, signage, equipment, catering and other operational requirements.
  • Develop and maintain run sheets, checklists, schedules and other operational documents, and provide hands-on operational leadership on event days.
  • Identify, manage and escalate operational risks, issues, delays and dependencies to support safe and effective delivery.

Data, evaluation and continuous improvement

  • Coordinate collection of required data, surveys and feedback and work with SECL’s Reporting & Insights capability to support evaluation and reporting.
  • Coordinate post-event debriefs and embed lessons learned into future events, maintaining a practical Bring Your Bills playbook, templates and standardised tools.

Communications and program support

  • Coordinate with marketing, communications and digital resources to ensure agreed promotional activity, collateral, event information and operational website requirements are delivered to event timelines.
  • Contribute operational insights to the ongoing improvement and future development of Bring Your Bills.

Key skills required to undertake the position

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex programs, projects or events involving multiple stakeholders and competing deadlines.
  • Strong project management capability, including planning, dependency management, action tracking, risk and issue management and delivery across multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating relationships with a range of stakeholders, with the ability to build trust, communicate clearly and follow through on commitments.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating teams, partners and resources without relying on formal line-management authority.
  • Community sector experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in project management, community services, business, events or a related discipline, and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A strong commitment to social justice and to working respectfully with diverse communities and stakeholders.

What is in it for you

  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • Join a leading community organisation, trusted, respected, and valued by the community and our stakeholders
  • Enjoy a range of wellbeing benefits and supports, including hybrid working arrangements, a wellbeing allowance, EAP support and extra leave during Christmas and Easter.
  • Contribute to a team that strongly believes in advocacy and social change

  • An energising workplace, with a supportive culture and great colleagues dedicated to social & economic justice
