Description

Project Engineer

Driven Different. Built for delivery. Focused on what matters.

Full-Time Contract Position | Hybrid Role | Sunshine Coast Based

Join a team delivering real outcomes for communities.

At SHEPHERD, we work alongside councils and government clients to deliver critical civil infrastructure and disaster recovery projects that directly impact communities. Our work ensures funding is used effectively, projects are compliant, and communities recover faster and stronger.

We’re looking for a Project Engineer who wants to take ownership of project components, work closely with stakeholders and play a key role in delivering defensible, high-quality outcomes.

What you’ll be responsible for

You will:

  • Own and deliver key project components from planning through to close-out
  • Translate field and inspection data into structured, audit-ready deliverables
  • Drive coordination across PMs, councils, contractors and field teams
  • Manage and contribute to contract administration (progress claims, variations, RFIs, defects)
  • Ensure documentation, data and records are accurate, compliant and defensible
  • Track progress, manage priorities and keep deliverables moving
  • Identify risks early and take action to resolve issues before they escalate

What sets you apart

You’re a practical engineer who understands how projects actually run and enjoy supporting delivery from behind the scenes.

Ideally you will have:

  • Civil Engineering degree with at least 2 years’ practical experience
  • Experience across civil works delivery, construction, and/or disaster recovery environments
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence interpreting drawings, specs, schedules of rates
  • Exposure to QA, documentation or contract admin processes
  • Strong organisation and communication skills, able to coordinate across councils, PMs and field teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document/project management systems
  • A proactive mindset – you don’t wait for problems, you find and fix them
  • C Class licence and willing to travel occasionally.

Bonus if you’ve worked in DRFA, local government or audit/compliance-heavy environments.

Why SHEPHERD and Why this role is Different

High trust, high accountability – you’ll be given ownership, not micromanaged

Real impact – your work directly supports infrastructure delivery and community recovery

Variety – work across multiple projects, clients and environments

Hybrid flexibility – mix of office, WFH and occasional site/client travel

Strong team – practical, supportive people who get things done

Competitive rate – $50–$60/hr + allowances (flat rate for all hours worked) dependent on qualifications and experience

Apply now If you’re an engineer who wants to work on meaningful projects and build real delivery capability, we’d like to hear from you.
